How do you notice this? From under the wheel arch or inside the trunk?

You must replace them.

You can get OEM's that will do it again, or get better aftermarket ones.

If you remember, I had the same thing happen to my fronts last year...

How easy is the rear replacement ?

I have never done it, but I don't think it is very hard.

You have to access the tops of the shock mounts from inside the trunk (boot), so there is some interference to remove.

Let me look at my ETK DVD.

OK

Up on my web site is three procedures you will need to do this. I just put them up there after ripping them from the BMW TIS CD.

1. Replacing a mounting for convertible top compartment floor.pdf. This will remove the interference to the tops of the rear shock mounts.
2. Replacing left or right rear shock absorber.pdf
3. Shock Absorbers Torque.pdf

Thanks looked at your diagram, is it item 3 that needs replacing ?

The upper shock mounts are sold as a unit.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT33&mospid=47798&btnr=33_1143&hg=33&fg=45
Item no. eight...

For the stock OEM replacements:
33526779670 $25.22 (each)
Rear suspension - Suspension components - Shock mount

For a little more money, Rogue Engineering (example) had upgraded ones:
http://www.modbargains.com/product.aspx?pf_id=Rogue_rearshockmount_CS

Remove the shock, unbolt and replace the mount, then reattach the shock...

I have a suggestion, since you are in there anyway, why not replace your shocks at the same time....

Opps one last question, is the softop floor easy to remove to enable access to the top of the shock's ?

Nice site shipkiller.

Thanks

Last year, I took mine out in about 15 minutes before I had the BMW DVD....

I had to troubleshoot why my softtop would not open...

Thanks. I am on travel for the next month or so. I plan on adding much more content while I am up here in CT.

Rogue Engineering, Ireland Engineering (that's what I have on the Z3) or others make a urethane version of the RSM. They make the car handling a lot more precisely (all the rear bushings on my Z3 have been replaced with urethane, and it's definitely more reactive and less jello-like). The only caution with urethane is to be VERY, VERY, VERY generous with Vaseline or it has the tendency to be noisy (squeak and rattle)... Of course having less rubber means more road noise is transfered to the cockpit...
