Rear Noise In gear 1 & 2 when accelerating

If anyone has a similar problem please help/advise?. When I accelerate aT slow speeds I get A clonking noise? Its certainly coming from the rear. Only in gear 1 and 2 mainly and if I accelerate harder than normal. When the car get warmer it occurs more frequently. Any Ideas?

just make sure its not bits of rear spring...

I know mine isn't, as I've had all the suspension checked already!

The knocking on mine is intermittent - when it went to the garage the last time, they couldn't get it to do it. Half way home it started again. At least know I've given them a 'heads up' as to what to look for

cheer mr lozzer your feedback will be great. Hopefully its not an expensive repair!!

Well, that was definitely it... been in the garage today, carried out the repair as per that forum link and hey presto! The noise has gone.... another job ticked off the list!

Thanks to everyone for the tips and thanks to adamski for the link to that video. As soon as I heard the sound on that, I felt that we'd cracked it

Hi

was it just the greese job you had done to cure the noise?
If so, how much time did it take / and what was the cost?
Did you mechanic need any specialist tools to do the job?

cheers

Yes. That's all they had to do. It was a bit of a PITA - heatshields and exhaust all had to come off. Only took 2.5 hrs in total, but also got them to change spark plugs whilst it was there. Probably 2 hrs for the grease job. Charged £84 plus VAT. Made sure that they used the BMW specific grease (P/N on another thread - haven't got it handy).

But having taken it for a 'spirited drive' (hoon) afterwards I am confident that the noise has gone... happy days
