Metallic Grinding Noise from rear

In my G29 sDrive 30 there's a quiet metallic grinding noise coming from the rear end, I think from the middle of the car. The noise changes with road speed, and is only audible with the roof up.

I bought the car in March, at which time it was 3 years old with 27k miles. Now has 31k.

It's been in to BMW once before and they found that the diff oil was low, and topped it up. They advised to drive 500 miles and then check if the noise was still apparent, which it is. They said there were no metal shavings found in the oil that was removed from the diff.

Has anyone encountered something like this before? I'm thinking it might be a bearing on/in the diff that's on the way out.

Im arranging to get the car back in with them to investigate further, so any insights from folks would be most welcome.

Not sure why low diff oil - no leaks, so am assuming it wasn't correctly filled.

1 year warranty from approved used program, hopefully it'll cover this.

Update in case anyone else has the same issue in future.

Car went to main dealer last week for a service, they investigated further and found that the noise was from within the diff. It was replaced under warranty yesterday and the noise is gone. The technicians report doesn't say what had failed in the diff, I doubt that they would disassemble a diff at a dealer so likely won't find out exactly what the failure was.

Have to add that Douglas Park BMW in Stirling have been very good. Everything done at my convenience with zero fuss or drama.

Good that it's sorted - and being under warranty you benefit from the part swap mechanic style of BMW main dealers.

It's pretty awesome whilst under warranty - not so great once the car gets older :(

Might have spoken too soon, noise has come back. Quieter this time but definitely there. Car is going in for the starter recall on Tuesday so they're going to look at the diff as well.
