Steph and I went to see Spectre this morning - she enjoyed I was disappointed.
Seems the franchise aren't sure where to take it. . . . have to say I'm understanding Craig's reluctance to do it all again. I'm now looking forward to a new Bond and a new approach.

Cards on the table - I'm just a big kid and so when I go to a Bond Movie I'm expecting it to surprise me, delight me and be fun, as well as exciting, so I do like the gadgets and new ideas showcased. (There's plenty of varied spy stuff on film which offers possibly a more realistic image of the genre - so for me Bond is all about escapist excitement).
I felt let down with the new Aston - a couple of tape labelled switches and flames out the back . . .then something seen in many other films - he saves the day ejecting from the car . . . .yawn. Even the filming of the car was boring - rear shots looking down and rear shots in the chase - why no set piece iconic images?
Thought the chase scene between the two cars was very poor as well (the French do do a better job of this) though the bad guy's car looked interesting - was it a Jag 220?
A torture scene which was far too clinical and without tension (and with little after effect - eh?
) The exploding watch (yawn) The plane and off road chase (already seen that in adverts and released sections of the film - wish they'd stop doing that!) dependent upon so much timing and set pieces it was disappointing rather than enjoyable.
Back to a previous named Bond Bad Guy - even with the white cat - ok - but again, where do the producers want to go . . . .thought we were in a new age?
Couldn't believe they were still using images of women in the title sequence (good job Daniel was there with his shirt off - maybe that's meant to even things up a bit?) Bond girls - Romancing (not quite the right word more like a case of date rape) of the elderly Bond Girl spinster - why? Trying to show a side to Bond then softening up with a failed romance with the key Bond Girl. . .geez what's this supposed to show . . . .I preferred the stronger character of Jinx played by Haley Berry or Onatop (at least that's a bit of progress
)
I could go on - so many links and pointers to the old Bond when I thought they'd blown that away with the total destruction of the DB5. . . but no there it was again and all a bit desperate to use it at the end of the film . . . .
Quite liked the opening scene right up to the casual walk along the top of the buildings and the explosion of the building but the helicopter scene just didn't add enough drama or excitement bar it involving lots of extras - for a Bond opening it was another let down.
So a confused film for me - thought the franchise was trying to move forward but couldn't see it and neither was there enough novelty to keep me entertained. 6 out if 10. . . . .
I'm off to watch Pierce drive that tank again . . . . :lol:
