Re- taking vows-

Hi all,myself and my better half are renewing our vows to celebrate 25 years of wedded bliss this August,i am just a bit unsure when to do my speech?-its only a small reception with about a dozen of us there,but i dont want to do it at the wrong time :cry:
Do i wait a length of time after everone has finished eating,then ask to have everyones glass recharged to toast my wife?
Does anyone know the etiquette?- its been so long since i last did it!

Would normally expect the speech after desert, and just after coffee/tea is served. Get the staff to bring a glass of something (wine/champagne etc) out for everyone just after the coffee/tea, then tap the glass, and start the speech. And good luck!
 
Hey well done. Did the same thing a few years back for our 25th.

Speech - as Markeg says seems the right timing.

Word of advice - don't get too smart with the anecdotes and have them preapproved by swmbo - you're a long time married and you'll get nowt but grief. Play it right and you're a hero for months :)

+1 Know this too well - didn't get the anecdotes quite right (in SWMBO's view) for my wedding speech, still get grief today (only 21 years later :D )
 
Hi congrats on 25 years im currently at 6 Weeks. lol.

As markeg said apart from don't tap you glass with your knife or anything, this is bad etiquette popularised by US made films. You should stand project your voice and ask if you could have everyones attention.

Funnily enough, tapping the glass is a technique we used at military dinners, where etiquette is pretty important. Unless there is a pregnant pause when the speaker stands, tapping the glass is perfectly acceptable. :)

Must be a different situations thing then as if I did that at formal dinners my father and his friend would have confiscated my cutlery to stop me doing that to insure I got it right when he died and I became Lord Penrice. Also It would be frowned upon if done in Lodge to. :)

Yesssss! A question at last I can answer with some expertise!

Traditionally the grooms speech is done at the end of the meal but nowadays some men are preferring to do it before the meal as they get so nervous about it they don't enjoy their food!

So the short answer is, whenever you like! (Don't forget to say how gorgeous your bride looks, she'll never forgive you otherwise!)

I did mine before we ate as I thought I would be bricking it. Turned out I wasn't and I was awesome :lol:
 
Thanks for the wishes all-the thing is my memory is not what it used to be :oops: -is it bad etiquette to have a piece of paper?
