Re- taking vows-

Thanks for the wishes all-the thing is my memory is not what it used to be  -is it bad etiquette to have a piece of paper?

I used 4x A4 sheets when delivering my "Father of the Bride" speech recently. Ended up delivering a word perfect speech that went down well. I'm not used to public speaking and wanted to get the speech right rather than try to commit to memory and make a dogs arse of it.
So my advice is use A4 sheets and deliver word for word or use crib cards. The important thing is the sentiment in your words............not whether you have a good memory.

Congrats and enjoy the day.

Not at all. Not everyone is blessed with the ability to deliver speeches from memory... my cousin is an officer in the Army and has to deliver speeches quite often. He writes down as series of notes on a small card and works the speech up from them... nobody minds there, so they won't at your 'do' either

I typed the whole thing up and printed it off. I then tried to commit to memory even though I knew this wouldn't be possible. It did however let me spot the areas that I repeatedly got hung up on. I then highlighted these areas in the speech so that I could add them to crib cards. I then set up some crib cards with prompts. Each section/topic of the speech got a card. I use this method to a certain extent for presentations in work.

I think small A6 cards look much more professional than a piece of A4 which has probably been folded up and stuck in a pocket.

Agree with you there...

Just a thought, are you re taking the vows cos you have forgotten then?

I.d ditch the "in sickness" bit. You could get rid when the old age syndromes start to kick in

:D -good ideas with the paper/cards!

You might want to ditch the " with my body I thee honour " bit too - unless you want the youngsters present to giggle :D

GLWS (speech) and I'd second speaking before the grub so that you can enjoy the food too.

Next time I come anywhere near renewing, I'm making sure I take the annual subscription option. This perpetual license business seems to exclude trying out new versions and the promised upgrades never happened...
