Thanks Stu and rayz4 appreciate it
Well not there yet but I think im on the right path, was in a real rut with my last job, and needed to get out of it. Quite a scary time really, complete life switch around lol
Well I am a Graphic designer and photographer thats what I did at uni, I was working primarily as a graphic designer at a local newspaper which blossomed into half the job description being a photographer in the first year as we were expanding with added pressure from me. As we didnt have any facility to do any in-house product photography so had to rely on the companies to supply imagery. The deadlines are tight and there just wasn't time, so that was the start. Then i started doing all the jobs the freelance photographer they employed didn't have time to do, events and stories etc I was one of the photographers for Kendal calling last year, which was awesome. It was basically an added value service that should have been in place for a long time.
But now I work for an agency which is part of a group of businesses working together to produce high quality visuals but without it being inaccessible to smaller businesses, basically accessible design, in which I am a true believer. As branding, advertising and campaigns quickly spiral in cost we advise as well as design, its a full package that not many places do. before companies would get specific publications to design art work so every advert would be different across similar publications... so campaigns failed but were expensive! Just backward!
We creates visual solutions for local and national business but its more cumbria tbh, but it is linked with the Newspaper so I switch between the two but work much more closely with clients and get to go out more instead of being behind the desk.
So we do all sorts of things including PR & social media, graphics, type setting, video, CAD, CGI, photography the list is endless its really exciting. And the kit.... its enough to make any tech guy have a heart attack!
So we can cater for any type of promotion or campaign. Its great because most people that start businesses are not particularly visual and find it hard to see past their product, almost too much passion so struggle to nail exactly what it is they do! So thats where I come in, they talk me through the product and I try to take their passion and convert it into a visual campaign so it is more attractive and is aimed at the right audience. There are some great local businesses and products but a lot fail because they cannot target their audience.
I just started 2 weeks ago, but broke my hand and two fingers playing football which wasnt a good start but the job seems to be going well! But with setting up my own business its been hard work, worked about 70hrs a week for the last month trying to get things going. So social life has been dead as a dodo. But I think its all going to be worth it in the end
