Question for space space grey owners

Would some of the Space Grey owners on here mind giving their view on the colour; I.e. how easy is it to keep clean and looking pristine from scratches etc. does anyone regret choosing that colour.

Much appreciated guys (and ladies).

It's the perfect colour to look good in, in my opinion. I love white, but space grey looks gorgeous clean, and very shiny

Seems to be very tolerant of dirt in as much as it does not show up too much! No particular problem with scratches other than the ones I have put there............ Very happy with the choice and it gets lots of positive comments.

I have it, and agree with all the comments made already. Looks ace with Walnut Leather, but then I am biased :)

Space Grey is excellent. It is as good as Titanium Silver. The car does not need wash for months, and still looks great. :D

I have ordered a space grey 2.0 M Sport to replace my grey Mini Cooper S. Having had two black cars previously, grey is much easier to clean and doesn't show up dirt half as much.

I'll be the first to say it, it's still more prone to showing swirl marks compared to alpine white or titanium silver. But not as bad as a black car. Trust me, I washed my black Z4 a week after getting it swirl marks everywhere once the sun shines on the paint.

My 5 is space grey and I love it, stays clean and shiney longer than any other colour I have had...I would have ordered my Z4 in space grey with walnut but would look a bit odd two cars the same colour so I went for the next best thing "Deep Sea Blue"

Black car taught me about swirl marks! Yours was probably from the dealer wash. Handle carefully with microfiber everything!

Yah, I am almost sure of it. Dealership washes sucks, that's why even if it comes free with an oil change/ maintenance I always tell them not to wash it. I do love black cars after a wash, nothing like it but I digress.

My 650 was Space and was gorgeous.....

Nothing beats black when it's clean and maintained.....but my RRS had such soft paint, it swirled like you wouldn't believe!!!

Glad to say white is pretty good, does show the swirls....but it's as good as can be. Unless you are machine polishing your car once a month, swirls are unavoidable

Black cars are gorgeous when clean, but it takes A LOT of work to keep them clean safely. Since my black car I've been put of dark colours for that reason, so the OP is effectively asking if space grey has those problems.

With any car, especially black, heres my top tips to avoiding swirls:

1. NEVER let the dealer wash it.
2. NEVER use automatic car-washes.
3. If possible, use snow-foam to loosen/remove as much crud as possible before actually touching the paintwork.
4. Did I say NEVER let the dealer wash it?
5. Use two bucket method with good quality wash mit (not SPONGE) returning to dirty bucket to rinse.

Others will have their own versions I'm sure, but these will help to minimise swirls (I say minimise, cos I think its unavoidable to some degree). Basically, you want to avoid physical contact with the paintwork as much as possible - some people get the snowfoam right and dont need to touch the paint!

No matter what colour car, this is a good idea.

+1 on that. I've just invested in snow foam/equipment and its bloody fantastic on my sapphire black. Took a few attempts to get the right mix, but I have now and it removes even traffic film never mind the dirt. I'm planning the very best detail by Miglior Detailing soon, which should have her looking like glass. Once done, snow foam should help me keep the car just so.

Getting my Z4 on Saturday and got Zaff from Project Karma to come and detail it on Sunday. Told the dealer not to remove the delivery wax.

Its not cheap, but gives a good "base", then with a good wash regime should minimise damage.

Possibly a bit biased, but space grey is THE colour to go for. White is ten-a-penny, black is ok, but shows the muck. Space grey when it is clean shows the lines on the Z beautifully, and hides the dirt well.... Just had mine cleaned, and got a rather nice feeling when driving past the local beer garden, lipread a guy say to his mate, "now THAT'S Fu***ing nice"

The amount of compliments I've had on how the car looks is testament to how good a colour it is, when I picked it up one of the servicing guys asked was it a non standard colour combo as he'd never seen one that looked so 'smart'

Go space grey, I assure you 100% you won't regret it, perfect mix of Flash, debonair and class

I'd also add to wash from top to bottom since the lower part of the car usually has the most dirt/mud, you don't want to drag those up and be cleaning the car with a dirty mitt. I also rinse the car halfway through the wash so it doesn't dry out, it's not much of a worry with the Z4 since it's a small car but it's always good to keep it in mind. I also use a quick detailer spray to finish off the car, it gets rid of the water spots that may form from that wash.

But yes, swirl marks are unavoidable. On a black car, it's like you can't even delay it. Makes me want to claybar/polish/wax every week.

Thanks for all your comments guys, suspected there would be a lot of praise for space grey but was maybe expecting to hear more comments saying that it would be difficult to keep. Apparently not 8)

Maybe a (long) story for another thread but my 4 week old alpine white zed is getting replaced and I have the chance to make changes above my current spec at my cost... Arrggghhh! What to do!

Heated seats are going on but am torn about keeping her alpine white and the dealer demonstrator is space grey and am wondering if it is worth the extra £££ to change :?

Still love the white but is the grass greener??? :sos:
