Quantum Remap on E89 20i

Hi,

What do you think the 0-60mph time is after a 20i remap to 260/280bhp?
The 28i is quoted by BMW at around 5.7 seconds and that is 245bhp and a bit less torque, so around 5.5 seconds at a guess?

My E89 has the 260bhp (ish) map but it feels much, much slower accelerating from standstill than my other car which is quoted at 5.6 seconds and is FWD. So who knows??

I had Remap Kings done recently and it's more in the mid-range that i notice the effect - no idea if it's placebo as it hasn't been near a rolling road so who knows

from a standstill i can't tell a massive difference but then mine is an auto

but i reckon the 30-70 time is way down on what it was before remap

Manual or auto?

The auto box is faster once the power is past 200bhp ish by about 0.2 sec for every gear change..

0-60 is just on the cusp of changing gears..

So it will be faster than a 28i by a smidge…

Most book figures quote 0-62…

So a 28i is 5.7 and 5.5

A 304 BHP 35i is 5.2 and 5.1

So by deduction around 5.3-5.4 for an auto and 5.4-5.6 for a manual…..ish

I assume you’re not going to be that cruel to your car…

Now we wait for the Man v Auto debate to start
Nah! I think most manual owners accept the auto can change faster, but old skoolers like me just have to have a knob to wiggle. :?

Agree though, that why would you trash your car to get to 60 as quick as possible, when in the real world it is the amount of time you're exposed overtaking on the wrong side of the road that really matters.
For me, it's the extra torque that allows you to sit several more car lengths behind the one in front, thus giving a clearer line of sight, but still being able to be out, past and in faster than standard.

No just interested as 0-60 is one of the good datum points to compare performance.

I had a car remap from 200bhp to 250bhp and they estimated that 0-60 should be almost a second faster. The performance was night and day so I could possibly believe it.

it is a good 'reference point' admittedly. The N20 comes alive with a remap in the 30-70 acceleration, though, IMO. Which is, let's face it, the everyday band. Overtaking becomes something you don't have to 'plan', or generally even change gear!

I stretched the legs of mine a while ago (on a private runway called the A1) and was really impressed that at 80mph in 6th, put your foot down and it pulled like a train with no let up until I chickened out at around 120mph. The torque band seems never ending.
