Quad Exhaust Conversion for our Bruce... NOW FITTED!!!

Ok, quad fitted & picked up this afternoon. Sounds great (louder than I wanted but can live woth that)

However havibg just got home I've noticed the roght hand pipes are slightly to the left of the bumper cutting (compared to the other side) and the pipes come out approx 10mm more.

The pics arent great quality but not sure whether this is acceptable or whether to expect a perfect symetrical fit???

Hmmm, It's your call but I would be taking that back I think Wills.. It's a mile out of line anyone can see that and Im pretty shocked that they let it go out of the garage like that to be honest.

If it was me it would definately be going back as it would bug the hell out of me!!

Other than that it looks good. Quite like your choice of exit pipe. Echoes that of the 'M' pipes :D

Good so far but I'd take it back. Very noticeable even on pics on an iPhone. You'll never really be happy until fixed.

Give it a run let it settle and listen for noises knocks, etc. too

Not so bad on this one, but yes will drop back next week for some adjustments :-(

thanks all for feedback

Wills , let them know tomorrow that you are not happy and tell them you will pop back to get it sorted , just in case there say you have done something like reverse on to some thing and bent them in .Iam sure there wont but better to be safe than sorry.

Aha, I now see what has happened;

After posting pics I went back to the car an hour later and exhaust looked symetrical!? Took it for a run, and hey presto when it heats up it's moving outwards and to the left, before settling back in place when cold - an easy fix hopefuly?

The only other thing is the noise, it is loud i.e on my run a local chap signalled me to slow down - was doing 35 in a 40..!!

What are others thoughts on loud exhausts?

Personally i dont mind them. I get lots of stares but not always the good kind.... A couple of weeks ago i was just at the end of one of my favorite runs on some quiet twisty mountain roads and as i neared a village (before i entered it) a group of people just stared at me with a completely disgusted look on their faces as i was cruising by... They must've been hearing me for a good 5min before i showed up.

I'm used to it now and dont pay much attention. My girlfriend also found the attention a bit too much in the beginning but now she's OK with it.

Wills - how did you get around the charcoal filter at the back of your new pipes? It looks great and I can't wait to get mine done this weekend :D

I wish I knew! The guys at the garage just had to manipulate the exhaust, it took them almost 2 full days but it's a very neat job (apart from issues above!). They then protected the filter & bumper with a heat shield. I'll take a few pics from underneath tomorrow although most of it's covered up.

All the best for this weekend

My only 2 concerns are upsetting the neighbours, and really didn't want my other half to find out I'd changed anything - she won't spot the quads but will def ask a few questions about the noise..! :-0

can you somehow blame the radio? tell her the speakers have worn out and thats why the exhaust now sounds louder

Well I've decided the exhaust is just too loud & boomy. Idle is ok, but it's so loud with the slightest throttle which makrs accelerating just embarassing.

My request when it was custom built (& is on the job sheet) is to keep the sound the same as standard.

I'll call the garage again tomorrow to see if we can come to some sort of deal on 2 larger or 1 single back boxes (the existing 2 are tiny and there looks to be room).

Any other thoughts on how they can make it quieter?

Think you will struggle to get two boxes in without moving the batter box AKA CJ's mod. I think the easiest option would be a new back box that feeds both sides in place of the existing (similar to the Eisman setup). Shame you find it too loud. I love mine and get nothing but complement on the way it sounds.. The sound has much improved since having it fitted too.

Do you have straight pipes? Mine sounds great at idle, again great over 4.5k rpm but inbetween it's so loud and getting lots of attention.

Granted I havent heard it from the outside, but whilst driving it does sound a bit boy-racer ish...

I had my exhausted fitted at the weekend and the charcoal filter had to be removed and capped off. Went to fill up the motor this morning I unscrewed the petrol cap only to hear pressure being released? Is this normal after having the filter removed?

I love the sound of the exhaust now but after having the rear backbox totally removed, its really drones doing over 60mph - any suggestions?

Never really noticed the pressure sound to be honest. I will listen out for it when I next fill up.. Maybe someone else can help out in the meantime who has noticed this before to reassure you a little..

With regards to the drone, give it a couple of weeks. When I first had it done it seemed loud but you get used to it.. Failing that a set of ear plugs in the glove box? :P. Seriously though if it gets too much there is always the option to have a stainless box put back in where the old one was removed.

Hope this is of some help to you..

Glad you are generally pleased with the results though

Yeah Ive got straight pipes from where the back box was removed to the final exit.. The resonators and mid silencer section has been retained though.
