Purchased a Z4

Hi all
I am new to the forum and z4 ownership.
Just purchased a 2004 3.0l. I will hopefully be picking it up this weekend. Can wait for the drive back home via mid Wales.
I am already aware that the roof is a tad slow to open/ close. So that is an obvious first job followed by a service.
I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to what other tasks i should be adding to the list. The sort of jobs that may save hassle at a later date.
Any advice would be welcome. In addition, would Number5 be the closest person who would be able to repair and relocate the roof motor?
Thanks all

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Cooling systems can have problems like bowed radiators and split expansion tanks so are worth checking, also oil leaks from the cam-cover and oil filter housing gaskets as they get brittle over time.

Nmber5 is Bristol based so may be your nearest roof motor guru.

Good to see you know we like to see photos of Z4s - even though we all know what they look like!

well you'll certainly notice a difference in performance with a 3 litre!

Welcome aboard. I suggest you have a quick search for Disa valve on here and whip it off to check it’s not about to fall apart. While you’re there, right under it is a corrugated type rubber pipe which is prone to splitting,
For reference, if you’re not aware, yours is the M54 engine.

As you have said you’re a novice may I suggest you also speak to [ref]colb[/ref]. He is near Cardiff and with some friends runs Zedshed Cymru. They are a bunch of enthusiasts who will happily take the time to check your car over, check any stored codes and show you the things you need to be looking at.

Thanks for that. I will definitely make contact with both colb and umfaan.
Just done a quick google of zedshed cymru and it looks like a fantastic idea. You cant beat learning new skills from other like minded people. Would be more than happy to get involved and contribute.
Only 48 hours to go before i get the keys.

Where are you getting it from?
Could plan a trip via Number5, then on to Colb, dropping in on Umfaan on the way to collect a box of useful spares. 8)

😂 that is a cracking idea. I am picking it up from knighton, which would mean I could pop back via heads of the valleys. I will figure out how to pm colb!
Thanks for the prompt.

Welcome and congratulations. Great bunch of knowledgeable enthusiasts on here and there is no such thing as a silly question

Hi from me here at Zedshed Cymru in Newport, only too pleased to meet up and give your car the once over and give it a health report Scan.
We do keep in touch via a WhatsApp group, as we are spread across South Wales and the Bristol area. I will PM you with my mobile number, just text me back so I can pick your number up and I will add you in.

Just spotted you will be picking the car up this weekend, I will be away this weekend so we will have to arrange a suitable meet up again.
Just sent you a PM on here re our WhatsApp group.

Hi all
Got the car and had a lovely drive home through mid wales.
Few issues to address, but what was expected given it was £1655.
135k on the clock, that should be nothing for these engines.
I will figure out how to add pictures then update the thread :D
