Pugs v French Bulldog

Hey now lets not put down everyones choice of pooches . French bulldogs are sort of cute 'coz of the bat ears. Pugs are not my cup of anything and "Winstons" just have too many health issues nowadays , I like them but .....

if they won't go into a slough and pick up a bird or flush a pheasant they can't earn their keep

Just kidding, they don't have to hunt to sleep on the couch in my house. It's just a bonus if they do

CJ10..... I feel your pain... whenever I walk the dog(s) I try to avoid the little ones most, they bite for no reason. Snarling, snappy all the time or a parting nip to show who's boss.

So right. Little dogs on the loose are frightening. They chase after and 'nip' and I'm more frightened of killing them by kicking or treading on them. Larger dogs often bark, but are less prone to actually bite, unless they mean it or are upset. For those I give them a wide berth, especially in urban environments or around farms.

For the record I do like dogs, but too busy to put in the time and effort to care for, walk and do the right thing by them. Was actually brought up with boxer dogs and one used to kidnap me and hide me in the garden. Must have affected me somehow

CJ10 sorry to hear of your experiences and fully understand your point of view, but I just started the thread as a way to gauge opinion of two dog breeds in particular. Sorry if any offence has been caused. Steve

Certain not offended me and hope I've not done similar. Seems from the initial responses they divide opinion.

We rarely stay on topic for long so this is no exception :)

Hope you get advice from someone with ownership experience and find something you like.

Have to vote for a French Bulldog.

Back on topic, at least for a short while :D

my wife had a french bulldog sent over from a lithuanian woman in ireland, boris is a year ish old and is a bit wierd, a bit stupid a bit agressive a bitof a pain really but she loves him, wheat and grass allergies included, oh and sweaty armpits too. my advice , look before you buy.

I have a pug, and it's changed my life.

Until I got daisy I was never an animal person. While I would never want any harm to come to an animal, I was never touched by RSPCA appeals on TV etc. In fact when I split with the ex I agreed to pay of a loan of about £6000 to get to keep daisy.

Daisy is now the most important thing in my life, I never thought you could love anything so much, let alone a dog.

She as a great temperament, fun, low maintenance and so loving. She can also instantly lower my stress levels. She's very laid back and great with kids and baby's.

Yes some suffer with breading issues, luckily daisy as been fine, however a lot of pedigree dogs have other issues such as joints or heart problems.

My friend as a frenchy, he's lovely but a little more serious than a pug, almost moody. But a great dog (he's called Burt)

Happy to answer any questions.
