Proud parent moment

As some of you may be aware, my son had an accident at school in October and is now wheelchair bound.

At the time I didn't know what to do or what the future held.

We it's now nearly 8 months on and I am so proud of the boy I love turning into a well adjusted determined young man. I on the other hand have been a jibbering wreck since. Mainly when I'm on my own. I won't let him see me get emotional when he's around.

He lives with his mum and step dad and I will say they both work very hard to make sure he has emotional and physical support when needed.

Every day he goes from strength to strength. He has started play wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby. He is also sitting his GCSE's so all in all has a pretty full agenda.

I do my upmost to make sure he is looking positively at his life and will say he hasn't moaned once. Actually he did once but after sitting with him and talking about what he has got and what he can do he hasn't looked back.

Not sure why I'm sharing this with you all but I guess you are part of my extended family and I have had very kinds words expressed from you and for that I am grateful.
Plenty of people slate forums etc but I have found the site to be very useful for my car related stuff and as my lad also loves my car a great way to share with him.

The other thing I would say is tell your loved ones you love them. Don't put off that phone call or let bad feeling come between you. I very nearly lost the most precious thing to me ( no not the zed😜) and am grateful I can see him grow into the great young man I am seeing develop.

He is planning to stay on at college and go to uni. He wants to go into engineering so I know if he puts his mind to it he will achieve this

Just some random pics and vids of my lad

Nice to read a positive outcome from an horrendous situation, a positive mental attitude works wonders for staving off a sink into dark places.

I hope he continues to thrive and deal with his paralysis, I can't imagine it. All the best to you both Ross.

Cheers John. I'm hoping other people will look at their lives and maybe make the extra effort needed. We cant all do everything and with support of others great things can be achieved

Ross i had no idea!
Being a new father i can only imagine how difficult this must have been for you and all your family!
Sounds like you and especially your son are getting to grips with it.

I agree about forums i have posted a number of non-car related things. And have received comfort great advice and taken a lot from them

Cheers Matt. Will get my lad out on a drive soon as good news is his chair fit in the zed

Hi Ross, it sounds as though despite being young your son has a "get on with it" type of attitude.
That's going to carry him far :)
Rob

Great to hear about your son's progress and attitude to his challenges - brilliant.

Just like to say he's got an impressive Dad too . . . every credit to you rossonr - a great post

Cheers Rob he will definitely try his hardest

Cheers Paul i am far luckier than some parents who have lost their children. For that I am grateful

Can only echo what Monkey said. Having 12 year old twin girls does make you worry

Cheers srhutch. Yea they worry you from the moment they are born until they become independent adults. Although some still worry their parents even then lol

Wondered why you hadn't been around as much recently Ray.
This is truly a heart warming story, we can learn a lot from someone with a mental attitude as positive as your son's. Thanks for posting.

Cheers colin. Yea had so much going on. Moved house to be closer to my son. Job has been manic and cancer has come back so having chemo too. So been tough one but we are doing ok. He's getting stronger every day and I'm kicking cancers arse

Bloody hell Ross, really sorry to hear about your lad, but I'm sure he will go on to do great things in his life and he looks like a fighter.
I did do a double take as he looks quite like our son, what's his name ?.
If you want a meet up, we are driving down to the AV8 cafe, near Cirencester, this Sunday morning for a breakfast, would be great to see you and your son. Hoping Monkey Matt will be coming along with his nipper too, if you can make it, it would be good to see you both.
If there's anything that you need help with, I'm sure your forum family will rally round.
Cheers, Fred
