Proper "Oh sh1t, what have I done ??" moment...

This MD of a company, that is not doing very well financially, has to make someone redundant. He narrows it down to two people - Jack and Jane. He goes through their personnel records and they both do their work well, are never late and dont have any time off, because they are young and fit. He can't make up his mind so, rather than toss a coin, he thinks "the first one to use the water cooler in the hallway, I will make redundant".

Eventually, along comes Jane, gets some water and takes two asprins because she has PMT. The MD comes over to Jane and says " sorry Jane , but I have got to lay you or Jack off". Jane retorts " OH REALLY, well can you jack off, because I really don't feel like it at the moment"!

Good luck, hope everything works out for you

... so the deed is done.

The 31st March will come round very quick.. just in time for you to buy that red //M you always wanted & pour your redundancy package into its fuel tank for a world tour - what a way to go.

.... Hoping to wangle things so I can have April off by choice rather than because I need to be going to interviews :P

I resigned last October after deciding I was in an unsustainable position, ended up leaving end of jan and getting approached immediately for a better position - started a couple of weeks ago and all's good. so that's good.

however I am still a little bit pissed off that I didn't stick to my guns and take more time out - I had 3 weeks, which seemed great on my last Friday, but I found there's a bit of inertia which means it's a week to get used to not having a job, then there was all the little things you need to get cleared up, that's another week, and the last week seemed to be spent finding various documents the HR dept in my new employer were demanding. :) so I rocked up on my first day feeling just a bit disconsolate about my 'break', particularly when the chap i'm replacing triumphantly announced it was good I was able to start so promptly so he could have a holiday before his new job..

anyway, best of luck, and what i'm sort of saying is, if you want time out, stick to your guns, it was probably my one chance to have a break that I could justify to myself and I ended up slotting into someone else's plan.

Well done Bing, and good luck. I've done the same twice now (13 years ago, and 6 years ago) and never looked back. You planning on any gardening leave? :D

Tapatalking...

Big step and a brave move I wish you the very best of luck. And kep us posted I have Ben thinking about staring up my own machine shop for a while. Just can't take the step you have.

Thanks everyone - it is reassuring knowing people have done the same and survived. Of course loads of people everywhere have, but it's good to see it written down. Been a weird day tbh, so it's appreciated

@Scorp - saw that coming a mile off, but

Well done Allan. I remember you we're talking about this at our last little hoon. Hopefully you'll find a position in one of the company's you mentioned.

Good Luck

We'll have to line up all the Imola M Roadsters at the Classic and put a cardboard cutout Bing in them. I'm sure Wee Bing could make one... :)

Same here Bing. 31st of march for me too and I ll be a jobless bum, unless I find something else before then...... I'm leaving a job in a bank and fancy a change but seem to be getting nowhere from the non banking jobs I applied for. Oh well, I have pay til mid April then six months pay to find another income! Good luck, there's always a need for salesmen, afterall they're the guys who bring the money in :)
