Hello all, and sorry for the slow updates... yet again, however I do feel the minimalist approach to this thread is whats keeping you all interested anyway so lets not ruin that shall we! After visiting Matt to sort out a few components my team and I set about hitting the project quite hard over a weekend and made some pretty good progress. We didn't get as much done as I would have liked largely due to one major issue... The rear arches weren't looking right at all being so angular and didn't sit with the rest of the OEM styling that bmw has done a good job of and so taking some advice from a comment left a few pages back decided it would be beneficial to re-use what was left of the old arches in order to keep that OEM 'looks lke it's supposed to be there' feel to the curves, so taking one step forward and two steps back came up with this final idea for the rear pannels...

I think you'll agree making use of the natural curve in the old arch is going to yeild a much better end result than attempting to fabricate a 'better' outer lip ourselves.

The next step was to build some front arches that suited the monster 11j front wheels... AND managed to sit right with the new front bumper which needed some major cutting and hacking to widen aswell. As it was built to accomodate the original width of a stock z4. In all honesty there is a lot of 'Make it up as we go' happening as the original renders have kind of gone out of the window somewhat, you'll see what I mean when I post this next pic. The front arches are taking a styling jump into the unknown as we reverse the way in which the original iconic sweeping lines from bottom to top and creating a sort of 'V shaped' opening. It's definately very different and should give you a idea as to how this is going to start looking.

Can i say i think its too wide! DTM style arches yes, however from now on i will keep quiet till its been primed and painted. Good luck with the rest of the build and i hope there are no more problems for you. I can only imagine how much bonce scratching i would be doing if i were under taking this project

Too wide :? Personally I wasn't hoping for a balanced stylish stance, no lets have bloody enormously vulgar, bad-ass wide - go for it. BTW I think the > front wing could work although obviously off tune with the original styling

Looking good. Nice to see some updated pics!

A wondering if the rear lights are going to look odd with so much bodywork either side. But time will tell.

Skirts look nice, will really set the car off. Good work thus far!

Nice to see the wheels went on!!

Come on back to work we all want to see it finnished

They did go back on! But I do have that knocking sound due to the front bolts still being a bit too long... I'd say by around 3/5mm, the car can be moved but you can hear audible 'knocking' coming from the front hubs so i'll try and find a way of getting them smaller again when the bodywork is finished as the car doesn't need to be moved really until it's going in for paint.

:)

Send them to me a few at a time if you like i will do that for you.

Or if you hold the bolt on the hex end in a vice and use a grinder to take them down. But be very careful and make sure you put a nice chamfer on the tread end so it dose not bind on the hub.

First thought... Needs slightly bigger spacers!! (From the angle if the shots anyways!) good progress though mate!

Just a thought, will you still be able to get through width restrictions?
