Quite a big update for everyone on here watching with keen interest. Today was an absolute scorcher down in sunny bournemouth and before I begin spamming images can I just say a HUGE thank you to Mat 'Machine Monkey' who has been an absolute legend over the last 2 weeks. Mat was the first member of the z4-forum I've had the pleasure of meeting and for those of you who haven't met him yet you're in for a real treat.
Mat has been making the front and rear spacers for me and has not only delivered the goods but with a finesse and care to detail that you simply could not have expected from someone who simply makes 'bit and bobs' in their spare time. As a thank you to Mat I've had 10x Machine Monkey graphic 10cm decals made and printed which he will be the owner of shortly to distribute and share as he wishes, these are in the same style as his avatar and look fantastic!
So without further ado...
Here is a sample of Mat's work, absolutely faultless work in both 40mm fronts and 75mm rears!
And when fitted, the black finish really does help make them far less noticeable! Top notch! He also did his best to minimise weight and managed to get the HUGE 75mm rears down to a modest 2.5kg each! Which not only hepls with rotational weight, but reduced stress on the bearings despite the increased pivotal forces.
I also have a fitted image of the 40mm front spacers with the 19" BBS deep dish alloys fitted.
Now because Mat was not allowed to travel all the way from Oxford without his moment of fame, I got a quick snap of him sorting out the threading on the spacers prior to being fitted. SMILE!
With all spacers fitted you can now REALLY start to see how WIDE this car is going to be, the coilovers are to be fitted tomorrow and the car will be gong as LOW as humanly possible, but my god. The build really is starting to get me excited, it's all piecing together!
When the dust settled in the bodyshop, Mat started complaining about some rubbing issues after lowering his 2003 3.0 E85 and since he'd done me a huge favour myself and Gary (Yoda of the bodyshop) took an old school approach to his rear arches and gave them a little flaring...
I had a nice little tour of Mats z4. His craftmanship is evident throughout his entire vehicle, everything from his custom gearknob, handbrake and engine braces are all pieces of Art and I thoroughly recommend ANYONE who is considering purchasing some of his wares to do so as his work is second to none! In his very words
"Blood, sweat and tears went into making those spacers..." and he meant it... the spacers came wrapped in toilet tissue covered in his own blood from a gauge in his finger caused from machining them earlier in the week. Cheers for the guilt trip!
Until my next update!
