I'd be a little wary of relocating a motor that far gone into the boot on the grounds of it being a fire hazzard. If its sat against the boot carpet, rather than being in its original pod (as the pod is too large to hide behind a carpet panel) you'll need to consider adding some other kind of non flammable insulation perhaps, just incase it does burn out in the near future. ?

Good shout- appreciated. I may pop the original pod sealed outside the carpet for the time being; then get some fire retardant material. Thanks Alan

I have to say Stuart, whilst I know there are budget constraints, I'd be patting myself on the back for reviving it, then fitting a new one!

Get one for the roof motor too while you're at it. :poke: :D

Well a fairly busy week means I've forgotten to update progress

Mainly winning, I think, anticipating the front bumper back from the body shop soon repainted and fixed...

Cleaned the front scuttle- wow. V dirty and blocked but no rust so thats good. Both wheel arch liners off for a good look again structure is good.

Vanos- full refurb done. Engine bay clean while all off so starting to look better. New water pump (OEM factory one was still on the car) plus thermostat, expansion tank, auto thermostat, spark plugs, oil/filter, air and filter and a new MAF.

Found the fault with the drivers window- burnt out motor so new one on the way and started to repair the hole in the drivers door arm rest.

Phase 1 (engine) now drawing to a close and its going to be phase 2: suspension and brakes next.

Got to say I’m impressed with all you’ve done Stuart. Nothing seems to phase you.

Cheers Ian-

Hope all is well with you and yours!!

Lots of front end action this week

New shocks, mounts, bushes, discs, pads, sensors et all.

New hub because of the snapped bolt situation and sorted the brake flexi too. New sway bar and drop links.

Wheels back on and onto the rear later in the week

Have you run out of petrol yet? I’ve been across to Kidderminster and back today in ours. Mostly motorways so 70+ and the gauge dropped quite quickly. So with your Lewis Hamilton approach it might be prudent to carry a spare can of petrol with you.

I went to Woburn today

Got to Colsterworth on the electric, averaged 46 on eco on way down

on way back I was grumpy and didn't get above 31mpg, so all in all half a tank to do what the diesel would have done on a quarter or less

but my god its quick when it needs to be, the gearbox is a thing of beauty.

I agree. Very smooth and easy to drive but shifts when you need it to. But there is so much technology on the car I am still finding things out every time I drive it.

I concur! Having moved from a f30 330d that I’d had from 2012, the tech change and overall improvements are huge! I’ve got the mild hybrid on my 340i and the balance of performance and range is startling. Decent run on cruise at 70 comfortably gets to mid to high 40s mpg. Range of 100 miles on a tank is doable as I’ve done it! Clever stuff.

Busy weekend

Yesterday I popped to the Torksey Z Shed: replaced the gearbox oil and filter. Changed the rear shocks (worst Ive ever seen) and top mounts but stopped short of doing the drop links and ARB bushes as they need further attention.

Today, changed the passenger side door. I will do a write up as I couldn't find one anywhere- good job enjoyed it getting the window swapped over, resealing the leaking membranes etc

Rear wing finally off- thanks Simon 3.2 for the write up and Alan number 5 for guidance

Found the resident spider who keeps leaving webs everywhere too
