Project 2006 Z4 - restoration (Enjoy!)

What do you reckon will be your asking price for the car? Im interested in how lucrative this restoration business is... :P
I'm interested in buying it!!
No idea yet. As soon as its up for sale you'll be one of the first to know!!

Really looking forward to seeing the car when it's done

Yeah, will be good (and bad) when its done!
It will undoubtedly be buried at the back of my workshop all winter gathering dust while I get on with more pressing projects. But I can always drag it out for a bit of fun (fixing it and driving it) at slack times and when the suns out.

Not quite sure what to do with it yet. Contemplating keeping it, BUT still have my full custom station wagon to complete. Come to think of it, the Z4 may actually fit into the back of it :)

Not had much time on the car, but had a few mins today to split the second foglight lens from the alloy housing.
Even growing plants in there if you look carefully!

I want to do a project on my fogs soon. What are your plans?

Im going to have them aqua media blasted tomorrow and see how they come out. Then its decision time on how to proceed.
I'll let you know.

Thanks guys :-)

Did you reset it (ie, take the Z4 out of Transport Mode) or disable it so it won't happen again? Apparently there's a difference but I can't remember the process to disable rather than reset since I haven't had to do it to mine (yet...)

Not that advanced yet! Just deleted it. Switched it off? Will spend more time on it soon.
Just excited to be able to do it!
Pity BMW didn't do it in the first place.

Andy.

If anybody knows the procedure to completely remove, will they post it please?

I think you need DIS software as well as INPA to delete transport mode completely. As long as you only have INPA, just resetting it should be ok as you'll have the ability to reset it again if need be. Or you can go down the DIS learning path and finish it.
Most of the info regarding this seems to be quite old, so it is possible something else is capable of deleting (not just resetting) Transport Mode. I'd be interested to know if anyone knows if there is a newer solution than INPA + DIS.

You haven't had to do yours yet? Is it that likely to happen? i.e. its not a question of, if it will happen... but when.
I've had a quick search around, I definitely don't like the sound of Transport Mode. However I'm not too sure what trips the system into that setting? Something to do with incorrectly removing the battery? Or leaving it disconnected from the battery for too long? Anyone know?

Cheers! :)

My understanding of Transport/Transit Mode is that it is only an issue where the supplying dealer hasn't fully deactivated it when first prepping the car for the road. A lot of them just effectively turn it off rather than deactivating it as a feature so it cant return. When its just turned off/reset it has the potential to return under certain conditions. These include a sustained period of low voltage like you can get with a failing battery or power drain etc. Not the power being shut off entirely when you change a battery etc.

I for one have personally replaced my failing battery as well as having the battery disconnected on a number of occasions for various tasks such as fitting M Sports seats and a Royals Steering Wheel etc. On all of these occasions the most the battery was disconnected for was no more than an hour. So either mine has been deactivated properly from the original supplying dealer, or its still capable of coming back but a battery disconnected for a hour doesnt trigger it.

Thanking you! I guess you do learn something new every day ey?
I'll bear this in mind for my future disconnection ventures! Cheers MACK

Interesting. I used DIS and was asked if I wanted to "DELETE" transport mode. Which I said yes to. Is this the same as fully deactivating? I have no idea!!

I would guess if it's been deleted it won't give you the option to delete again. Might be worth a second look.

Yep - I believe you have banished that demon for good. I thought you were only running INPA, not DIS as well. Perhaps I didn't read the posts correctly, sorry.
I only have INPA/NCS (dummies) and Carly, as they have done everything I've needed so far for coding (DRL's, power to windows when doors open, delete beeping when key in ignition and door open, 3 flashes for indicator tap, clear fault codes and so on...). Deleting Transport Mode is not an option with any of them, but I can reset it if needs be so that's good enough for me :)
