Production Begins ....

Only what I've picked up from forums etc - my understanding is that wireless Appleplay, Androidauto, Wifi Hotspot, etc are unavailable until a software fix is released sometime in 2Q 2022. Because over the air updates are also affected by this, I guess the car may have to be taken into a dealer to get this fixed.

That's what I understand too... I think.

Given our September ordering dates, I suspect we are in the same kinda build window... so I'm quite hopefully things are looking better than they could be.

Hope I'm not tempting fate!

Me too!

Production date given as 7th March...Ordered in August but the factory only accepted my order early January.
BMW Genius cant give me any details on deletion but salesman has said wireless charging and touch screen. I can live with that but Apple Play deletion will be a pain!

Fingers crossed for everyone.
On car config everything seems available now so hopefully your cars will be loaded as ordered.

I think Apple Carplay will still work as long as your phone is plugged in (which as there is no wireless charging it probably will be!).

Trying to figure why yours is going to be a couple of months later than mine when it was ordered earlier - possibly the Frozen Grey paintwork takes longer to schedule in?

Presently the USB interface is for charging only, you can only connect to apple CarPlay or Android using the wireless network in the car. It’s a pita for sure as my wireless connection sometimes drops out whilst listening to iTunes, a common fault with iOS not BMW from what I’ve gathered thus far.

I’ve just purchased a USB-C to lightning cable to be sure as when I plug in my watch charger I get this accessory is not supported, let you know how that goes

Thanks for the update Sars - that is a real pain if you can’t charge and use CarPlay at the same time, so if you are using CarPlay to navigate somewhere a distance away, and your phone runs out of battery, you’re a bit stuck!

This is sounding like a real half baked implementation.

I’m still looking for a solution for wireless charging in the car.

I may end up getting a MagSafe charger, but I rarely do long journeys and for them I can just plug phone in with a cable.
I don’t have issues with CarPlay dropping out at all.

Update from Dealer today: status now 182 with anticipated delivery during week 7 (14th Feb), it will have a '71 plate (or maybe I'll choose one of my own...)

According to discussion over on Bimmerpost, 6P1 is apparently the 'temporary deactivation of specific Bluetooth/WiFi functions', which covers the following features:

  • Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming from a second device
  • CarPlay/Android Auto integration
  • WiFi hotspot

The good news is that it seems by 'temporary deactivation' they might well mean 'we needed to switch to new hardware that we can actually buy but we don't have the software working on it yet, so we're going to push that out as a remote update once it is working'. A nicer problem than other recent deletions such as the touchscreen (6UY is the deletion code for that) and/or touchpad on top of the iDrive controller (6UX, ditto), where it sounds like the hardware itself is missing...

For reference, two other deletion codes I've seen are Z6W (deletion of wireless charging) and 32Z (deletion of Digital Key). Those showed up on my order because the deleted features were part of the tech/comfort packs respectively at the time, but it looks like they were removed entirely for MY 2022 so might not longer be listed as deletions. All rather confusing.

I'd offer my as-built options list up for comparison but it's probably not very helpful since it's on an sDrive20i, which is subject to more restrictions than the M40i; also I don't collect the car until tomorrow so I haven't confirmed what actually got built with my own eyes yet!

This is my spec - interesting that mine specifically lists Z6W (Deletion of wireless charging).

Very exciting - enjoy :driving:

Thank you, I certainly intend to! Once I get it home I can take a photo and finally introduce myself properly in the Newbies section (... didn't expect it to take quite this long to arrive when I first signed up...)

So does that confirm that we both have the full version of 6U3 BMW Live Cockpit Professional (from the 2020 brochure below) including touch screen and iDrive touch function?
10.25" Touch Display
– BMW Connected
– BMW Navigation system
– BMW Operating System 7.0
– BMW TeleServices
– iDrive controller with touch function
– Intelligent Personal Assistant
– Intelligent Voice Control
– Over the Air Map updates
– USB Map updates

Sorry, information overload on old brain...

That's my assumption at the moment - but I'll only truly believe when I have my mitts on it!!
