I think they may have over torqued these! Time for special tool number 2. Special tool number 1 in foreground failed dismally.

I know the feeling. I recently had the same issue.
I broke 3 Chrome Vanadium sockets and sheared an extension piece.
Got them loose using a mates high strength Impact socket and a long socket bar - Fuming

I rang the garage and they assured me they always tighten up to the correct torque

Ask to see their torque wrench. Or what the torque spec is for the Z4 :tumbleweed: :? :tumbleweed:

You are turning it anti clockwise I hope.
I could be offended by that remark but being a pensioner now, fair comment, but yes I was turning the correct way. Odd thing was the locking but was ok.
Rob.

You were lucky with that as I knackered my locking key undoing one of my locking nuts due to it being so tight.

If it happens again, you can get more leverage by putting the wheel in a vice and turning the car.

Those Monkeys are a dangerous breed. One reason I always try to go to the same local fitters every time, even though they are far from the cheapest.

I’ve just picked up an F11 and read horror stories about the locking nuts on them so thought I’d better check. Rears were fine as garage had replaced rear pads, but fronts where tight. Sheared an extension piece because I couldn’t find my brace. Ordered a 17mm impact socket so I can use my extension bar at 90 degrees to get the normal bolts out as they won’t shift.

Glad I did check as wouldn’t want to be at the side of the road with this problem.

I’d have thought if you’re capable of picking an F11 up a few wheel bolts wouldn’t be any problem young Steve.... :P

Totally agree and can relate.

Have only had the Z-4 since Feb of this year. Recently was replacing rear pads and rotors. Of course it was only one bolt that didn't want to break loose using an air impact wrench. I was using a 12 point socket (not an impact socket). I switched to using a breaker bar as the air tool was doing nothing, I ended rounding off the bolt. Fortunately I was able to purchase a 6 point impact socket and using a breaker bar with a long "cheater" lever like you have in your photo saved the day.

Purchased a whole set of bolts to replace any in the future. Also broke loose the front bolts just in case it was a "side of the road" scenario as mentioned.. As my one cousin often says, "Everyone sucks at their job." Some truth to that statement !
