im looking to buy a used z4m but cant get a grasp of the figures that people are asking.i was 2nd in line last week to buy an m on autotrader,the asking price for the 07 with 15000 mls was £19000 but went for £18400.i put a bid in for an 06 which is up for £23000 but he seems not to want to move that much from the asking price?what do people on here think a fair price would be for ethier an 06/56 or an 07/57?thats a coupe not a roadster.

Coupe or Cabriolet? Looking at a Coupe price:
£18400 for an 07 plate with 15k miles is a good price.
£23000 for a 56 with ??????miles(I`ll assume 20,000miles) is close to the dealer price. Take away about 2500-3000 for a private sale in my opinion.
If you were looking at 08 plates, I would say £22,000 in a private sale for a low milage car (<4000miles) would be a good price.
Take your time. The right car will appear for the right price. If a car is priced too high leave your details with the seller because the price will probably be dropped unless the car really is something special and someone is willing to pay a premium for it.
If you`re looking at Cabs, the prices I think would be a litltle higher than my figures above.

That was a good price. You'll be hard pressed to get one under 20k at the moment. I'd be looking for over 20 for my roadster with 15k on an 06 but with a years additional warranty.

OP, that 07 car was a crazy price...I agree with Duckson, all over £20k now for a Coupe
There's been a noticeable drop in supply and consequent slight price rise for coupes IMHO. I think you'll be lucky to get a really nice coupe for less than 21-22K. The best are £25K. Just a quick look at Pistonheads and the BMW auc site tells you that. I don't think this trend is only happening with the zm either, have a look at M3s, M5s and the likes of the Cayman and 911 and you'll see a similar thing happening. People are just now trading up in value right now so now that all the "panic" sellers have offloaded their cars to new homes, there's a slowdown in the quality cars that are for sale.
Personally i think it's a little unrealistic to expect to find a good car for the same money as perhaps 3 months ago. Good luck though!

Yeah, prices are firming up, but the ones that are still low value are there because they are not the good examples I don't think.
People who got nice M Z4's for sub £20,000 towards the end of 08 or very early 09 have bagged bargains imho. Kinda keep thinking back to a £20k Z4MC I was thinking of having a punt on... sounds like it'd have been good sense now from a residual pov (that said normal 3.0i's seem to be doing ok there too now as well)

Dunno, you can push the dealers pretty hard on the price. For both private sellers and dealers, the advertised price isn`t always the selling price as we all know.
Prices are better now than in Dec for sure, but I think there is more of a demand because of Spring & Summer. When winter comes with the prolonged recession throughout the year, my own speculation is that prices will be lower again, so the bargain hunters not desperate to buy could wait `til then. There`s no knowing for sure though as these cars are quite rare in Coupe form at least. The new Z4 will probably also put downward pressure on prices for a while.
I think this time next year, prices will be completely stable and should hold value well for a good few years to come.

The market has totally changed in the 3 months or so I've had mine. I had a lot of trouble finding a good one and there were more for sale in fact a lot more for sale than there is now. Values are probably heading a bit more where they should realistically be and unless the seller is desperate to sell (not going to be likley with an M car??) I cant see any going for under 20k unless they have higher miles or imminent services due. Dont forget also that its on the mileage OR two years from last service. As I found when I was looking people often forget that even if its a low miles weekend car as most of them are you still have to do a service every 2 years.
Z4M is the only car I've bought where I've had any real trouble finding a suitable car.

Good point re the servicing. A lot of cars are coming up to two years old now. Anyone buying should check this is done or factor it into the price.
We all know there are neglected, used and abused 4Ms around with bad history for under 20k, thats fine if you want that, but if your car is in nice condition and a low miler then that doesn't make it worth the same just because the registration number is similar.
Your car is worth what it sells for, glasses and the likes price books are only guides remember..........

I'm amazed someone would sell such a low mileage 07 Coupe (certainly an M!) for under 19k! But still, desperate times call for desperate measures. I doubt that is the norm tho..

I don't think I'd even consider selling my Coupe for much less than £25k. That might be unrealistic, especially given it's mileage, but I think a lot of people who over-stretched themselves buying these cars and then had to get rid of quick when the economy turned have artificially deflated the prices somewhat. Hopefully this will change, but then if someone has to sell quickly, then they'll take what they can, and it's most certainly a buyers market right now (for everything!).

.Both the Z4MR & Z4MC have appreciated by some £3000 since Jan 2009. They will continue to appreciate as only some 500 of each were produced for the UK. One of the performance bargains of the decade if you get in quickly. I predict that you won't be able to buy one in early 2010 for less than £24,000....
