Prague and new camera tips

Love Prague, it's a beautiful city. Have you seen/heard the elaborate clock chime? Something else I've just remembered, there's a gold strip down the middle of one of the squares marking GMT+1 so you can have the fun of standing in two time zones at once - maybe another photo for you to get yourself in :D

Oh I missed the gold strip..next time.
The clock chime was funny..not as extravagant as I had in my head and according to the huge crowds that built up every hour to watch it.
Definitely an amazing city though, so much to see. I have some more pics to post from my attempt with a more proper camera than my iPhone..as many of you will be relieved to see they are minus my head :D (not so easy to take a self portrait with that thing  )

Is that the astrological clock? My colleague was keen to see it before he headed back to Germany

Yes I have a pic I could post of it but my head is in the way..again. So won't. Made it back to England, affected by delays due to weather much?

Hell yes! Flight scheduled for 08:45 cancelled last night. Notified by SMS at about 22:00 with a link to rebook. That didn't work and the phone number given was normal office hours only. So I had a lie in, slept off the night before and finally got on a plane at about 16:00. Who said business travel is all glamour :?

Still, Prague was brilliant and anyone who gets the opportunity to go should definitely take it!

Ruby, another type of camera that you might want to think seriously about is a bridge camera, not as complex/flexible as a DSLR but tends to produce better quality images than the point-and-shoot compacts.

They're not as pocketable as a compact but have the advantage of larger sensors, though not as large as those in DSLRs, decent fully-auto modes with the option of manual control, alongside decent quality fixed lenses with an optical zoom range that would cost a fortune to replicate with a DSLR.

The best two on the market at the moment look like the Canon Powershot sx50 HS at about £360 and the Panasonic Lumix fz200 at about £430, comparing the two, there are advantages/disadvantages to both and which is 'better' will depend on your needs - and both have a £50 cashback offer available from the respective manufacturers at the moment.

If you just want a decent camera but don't have any aspirations to become the next David Bailey, they're a very good compromise - I ditched my SLRs and purchased my first bridge camera in 2007 and, as I don't have to carry bags of lenses etc., my back has thanked me for it ever since.

PerryGunn, thank you that's very helpful. I put off making a decision till I was sure and to see if any offers in January sales. A very good friend has lent me their Panasonic Lumix for my forthcoming holiday over New Years. Going to have a play with it and see how it goes. Really grateful everyone is offering some good advice.
