Poverty Spec….upgrades

I feel your pain on the stereo front, I have the same one and it is to be blunt weak! At full volume it's loud'ish but when the music gets peaky or a lot of bass then you can actually hear the volume drop slightly. I checked this with BMW and was told it was a speaker protection function to reduce the risk of blowing them.

However the option to upgrade it with aftermarket kit is there and I was quoted about 600 for a decent amp and speakers installed obviously not from a dealer but a good ICE shop.

As for car itself, trust me on a nice day with the top down it's a great place to be, you will forget the niggles and enjoy it. I have had mine for over 4 years and will be keeping it as although it's not perfect on those sunny days its just brilliant.

Standard stereo isn't the best tbh (I made sure I had upgraded on my second e89) but sounds to me like you've rushed into this purchase without doing your homework on the options!
Surely you had a spec that listed what the car had before you ordered?
School boy error by the look of things!!

Hunter. Sorry mate that sucks. A new car is meant to be exciting not leave you feeling flat. You can normally tell instantly if its 'The' car for you. I recently test drove 2 E89's and was honestly disappointed and enjoyed my drive home in my E86 much more.
I noticed you had an AMG SL55. I am very tempted to get one what did you think of yours?

Hunter, take the car back if you can, first impressions will always remain with you. The standard stereo is absolutely rubbish, do not let anyone kid you that it's okay it really isn't it has 100 Watts total output. I only realised how bad it was once I got the merc and was able to turn the volume up on a great track, I had spent 30 months in auditory purgatory, if I wanted to listen to a book with the top down I had to use in-ear phones!!!!!

Cup holders are okay, used them a lot, just in a dumb position

Return if you can, flimper spec cars are cheaper for a reason so it is unlikely that you are ever going to be happy with it.

Isn't there a 7 days no questions asked return policy on distance selling?

Your right to cancel an order
The Distance Selling Regulations state that your right to cancel an order starts the moment you place your order and doesn’t end until seven working days from the day after you receive your goods.
This is the minimum consumers must be given and many sellers choose to exceed this, so always check the terms and conditions in case you have longer to return your items.
As this seven-day working period is the time you have to decide whether to cancel, by law the seller can’t say that you must have returned the goods within this time frame.
Confirmation of your cancellation should be sent by email, letter or fax.

I don't understand why someone would buy a car blind :|

I think its unfair to do a downer on a car that isn't as well specced as the old car without thoroughly checking its spec in the first place. Theres a few things I miss on my Z4 that I had on the 1 Series, i.e. door handle puddle lights, parking sensors etc but wasn't prepared to pay extra. Whilst I quite like the old Z4 BMW moved the game on, refinement, quality of the interior etc and of course getting rid of the ragtop which was the best move. Would love a hard top on the Z3.

Pity the cupholder isn't like the USA specced car, in a more useful place. I deleted them out the storage box as the space is more useful.

The Professional ICE is a little better than the Business, but then found it OK in my 1 Series. I tend not to have the stereo up full blast anyway with the roof down, just draws attention to yourself :)

Tim.

Aww I feel your pain :( -I miss cruise control and bumper sensors from my e46 (which was very well specced)-I have flimper spec on my e85 but in wanted a back to basics roadie-love it-less toys less to worry about fecking up  -as has been said its miserable weather at the mo(well it is here)-wait until you get the roof down!-give it a chance!

I feel for you Hunter, the car is probably fine ,your just not comfortable with it.Take it back before its too late, you never know they may have one that is more up your street even though you may have to pay some more

I forgot to say if you like the E85 better we could always swap

The SL 55 is a very special car and makes you feel like a rock star!!!!but you'll only get 13 mpg :o

Been out and about…tried the sport button and that made a difference, i played with the sport plus a few time and it made me smile….the big things on the =car are great and the M sport spec is what i wanted…i just thought things like drive was standard…

On the plus side, the car is low milage, drives faultlessly, has unmarked, body, wheels and interia. I think i will get a hifi upgrade that incorporates bluetooth streaming and phone calls….cup holders, clip to the window ones will have to do…all should be fine :driving:

Don't frett...wait till you look through the 'E89 problems' section, then you will have something to worry about!

Performance wise there is no doubt that the car is very fast - but I have the 35is which will leave most other things standing and easily keep up with much more exotic/expensive machinery. However, dynamically, the car is more of a GT than a sports car and not that sharp around the twisties and I find the RFTs to be extremely limiting at low (<7C) temperatures!

ICE wise I have the BMW Professional Mulitmedia/Navigation and Professional Loudspeaker options and it is just about the best sounding system I have had in any car including the 12 speaker Harmon Kardon system in the Range Rover! Prehaps the upgraded Loudspeaker option makes all the difference in which case an upgrade in this area should solve the majority of the problem.

As for muisc I just plug my iPod into the USB port in the centre cubby and have access to all required music, easily updated and the interface with the iPod on the BMW Professional set up is the best I have come across in any car, ever!

What problems? no worse than any of the other BMW model range :)

+1

4 years and two E89's and the only problem I've had is dancing windows on my first one!
