Not only do we have millions of potholes here in the fens, but because all the roads were built on reclaimed land (from the marshes/sea), we have huge amounts of road subsidence. Potholes are cheap to repair compared to subsidence and heave. So they just don't.
Add to the ground issues the fact that we have lots and lots of 35 tonne HGV traffic (food logistics hub) using crap roads. It's a perfect storm.
Add in underground water mains and sewage leaks everywhere which wash away the sub-soil, it is a perfect storm and some.
