Potential neighbour dispute - Advice?

Lots of new houses have issues like this. They don't tend to adapt the designs for specific plots. In our old house our landing window was on the side and faced our neighbours ensuite window. Only separated by the 3 odd foot wide passage way. That and being built so close together. It's one reason we bought an older house when we moved.

I wanted a big old house, with a basement ;) but finding one with 5 beds plus an office, good parking and a double garage wasn't happening, and the wife wanted out of the old house after we lost our Son, so time was an issue, plus the fact that all the big old ones we looked at were semi's which was also a no-no.

This is fun! My 2P.

Get it done with the current neighbours in situ. That way the new neighbours will only know it that way and won't feel they've lost any bushes etc.

The gate design isn't my taste but I get why you'd want the level of privacy it provides given the reasons you've outlined. Could you add a pedestrian section of gate (roughly the width of the shrub bed) so that the swing of the vehicular ones is smaller and therefore takes up less of your driveway to open but also could stand away from their house when open as they'd now be at least a meter away?

Like this (both the wrong way round but you get the idea):

Any developments mike? Pics of this 'hot' neighbour?
Has it turned into 'neighbours at war' yet?

In case you missed it Chris (yeah right) http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=91961&p=1353356#p1353356

On the original topic... TWO more burglaries within 500m of our home this week, so another LED floodlight up at the rear, CCTV to be fitted, and order placed for gates and fitting..

Now, lets talk about your bush dear neighbour...

Mike

Maybe a silly question but can't neighbours 'claim' your land by encroachment?
