Pot Holes & Mud

That was driving at 30 mph through East Grinstead in a queue of traffic !!!

Carol, got the impression you are in Shropshire. Whatever you do don't bust a tyre on a pot hole. When i blew two tyres Shropshire council didn't want to know.

And why do other idiots go out of their way to drive through a puddle?
Not knowing what lies beneath.

Yep, they are useless. I'm aware of where to report pot holes but there's no point really.
Do you live in Shropshire too?

Report any highway damage the sooner it will be repaired and less vehicle damage so there is a point.

Its not so much Local Authorities are useless its simply they don't have the budget to spread around as they used too so unfortunately its our roads that suffer :(

And also why do people drive through water as fast as they can, which I never quite understand. Had a argument with a relative a while back as I said I drive through water a minimum speeds as a) your car is at risk from cutting out and b) you have no idea if drain covers have been lifted etc, along with road debris. They looked at me as if I was complete idiot. Maybe I'm over cautious :|

You don't have experience of Shropshire County Council. There is no point.
They fix the hole as cheaply as possible, within days the filling washes out and its back to how it was and most often than not, worse.

Down in Berkshire they do the same. It is laughable, I don't know what they use but it disintegrates quickly leaving stones and grit everywhere and a lovely hole to add to it. There's a 4 mile country road on my DD before the A roads which is a disgrace. My car is getting battered.

lol all Local Authorities are similar although some use better methods that others. I know Shropshire County Council have been going through a rough time with budget cuts of late with Staff being sacked on mass and re-employed on new contracts at lower pay levels, if you don't sign your new contract, your out of a job. Hardly a great incentive to fill those pot holes. You have to blame Central Gov't for bleeding Local Authorities dry.

The whole method of building roads in the UK is wrong anyway, perhaps they can send a few engineers to mainland Europe to learn how to make a road properly. Spreading tarmac on a bit of sand is not going to work.

Do it once, do it properly.

You've got to love it the way recently a resurface involves spreading bitumen over a knackered road, sprinkle stone chips, allow the cars to press it all in whilst bthe cars get a beating and Amy houses nearby face cracked windows, followed by a finishing sweep a fee days after. Only for the road to collapse again a year later . superb engineering, how can they stand back and feel like they've done a good day's work.

I'm Stourbridge but drive a lot around Bridgnorth, Telford and West Mids.
The pothole i hit was just outside Pattingham.
What annoys me is that the hole appeared where it as already been patched up several times over the years.
Supose if i had a good solicitor would argue that the Council were negligent in not repairing the road properly in the first place.

And don't get me started about road chippings. Staffordshire Council seem to think that its the answer to all road problems.
They seem to resurface around here every couple of years, leaving the surface awash with loose chippings for several months.
This year has been the worst i have ever known.

Potholes and mud just about sums up most of the roads I use daily, eleven in the summer! Hence I now have a Range Rover!
