Post-Olympics

The Olympics has totally wrecked me. I loved watching it and thought the closing ceremony was excellent, but ever since those "angels" appeared with Eric Idle I just cant function properly. Cant concentrate at work, cant concentrate on driving the Z, cant even look at the missus in the same light anymore unless I put white wings on her back.

I mean, holy moley, these angels were hot - if thats whats up there in heaven then BRING IT ON!!

I feel the same about the Dutch hockey team. :(

I am really missing it, having withdrawal symptoms. I have seen so much of it and enjoyed it all.

Thank you Great Britain for these fantastic games

World Cup hockey is in 2014 in the Netherlands! I'm going to make sure to be there

Btw Team GB also has some nice women as did New Zealand

Holy crap!!!!

If its one thing this Olympics has taught me its that there are some bloody fit women in sports thesedays and if I wasnt such a lazy little s**t then i'd be inclined to try my hand at one of the sports. Wish the shagathon was an Olympic sport ha ha ha ha ha

I think they were superb more or less from start to finish. Just proves that sometimes we should have a little more national self-confidence. It seems to have brought the nation closer together as well which I hope is one of the legacies everyone talks about.

We've got the Paralympics to come now. I'm sure I read somewhere we've sold 2m tickets compared to 150k in Beijing.

what about sports like judo, wrestling, fencing etc etc, these sports don't even get a viewing on tv

We got to see a minor amount of them, mostly 'coz there was a Canuck involved...... and not one second of womens field hockey was to be seen on Canadian TV ... WTF? WE actually could pick from three partially different signals. The NBC feed...all USA all the time. TSN, the sports network was OK ( I think the colour commentators were into the "brownies" once in a while  , and CTV the "other" national network was OK well but I can't stand the smarmy ass who was the head commentator.

As for the Games & the closing ceremonies .....wahoo, you dun good kids.

mcbeee,
have heard reports that there are alot of unhappy people your side of the pond about the coverage they were getting, Dunno what was going on there.
The BBC here did an excellent Job, every minute of sporting activity was broadcast, we were able to pick what ever sport we wanted to watch and go straight to it live.

The whole thing I thought was awesome!

Me and the wife decided last thing to go to London last week. No Olympic tickets but the atmosphere there was great! People in London actually smiling and they even talked to you!!! :P

Tried and tried to get some tickets on the website but it no no avail!! That website was so frustrating!!!

Had a great time with a very very happy ending! I wrote about it on my blog if you're interested! :D

I too was a bit sceptical about it all. I didn't for a minute think the transport system would cope, but somehow it did - though I think it was helped by a lot of people either being on holiday or working from home...

Despite our scepticism We had managed to get tickets for 2 events - diving and wrestling, and glad we did. Thoroughly enjoyed it, the Olympic park is very impressive. I do wonder what's gonna happen to it after though...

Proud that despite G4S's best efforts everything went incredibly smoothly :D

Indeed, and I've taken great delight in reminding them of that fact at every opportunity ;-) :-)

For a while they were banging on about how many silver medals they had, but we ended up getting more of those too.

Apart from the many, many late nights I've thoroughly enjoyed being a POM these past few weeks.

Well done Team GB!

Yup, 23 HD channels of the best sport on the planet. I've never watched so many different sports, from badminton (WTF ? I hate badminton) to shooting, diving, walking, fencing and all the rest... An amazing two weeks. Telly now sucks :x

Really proud of all our athletes, the volunteers, and to a limited degree - yes - the politicians for not getting in the way too much. Except Tessa Jowelly who can't help trying to score points in the same sentence as congratulation our team

The montage at the end of the ceremony as the BBC ended it's coverage had me welling up - there's something heroic about individuals who strive to reach the very top of physical perfection in their discipline, and the joy as well as the heartache were amazing to experience.

Anyone now when tickets go on sale for the beach volleyball in Rio ?

Wow what an amazing story!! Events like this bring the best out of people, regardless what country you're coming from, politicians could learn from that ;)

The plan is the Olympic Park is to renamed 'The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park' in about 12 months time. There will be extensive de-commissioning of various buildings. In fact the Velodrome will not be available for public/community use until the back end of next year. A replacement external cycle track will also be built to replace the old mile long Eastway Cycle Track demolished a few year ago to make way for the new Aquatics Centre. As for the Olympic Stadium this is out for bids for future occupancy so who knows when this will be resolved.
