Just out of interest, how many forumites use their Z4 as their everyday car? What with fuel price hikes and small, practical cars becoming more in fashion, are cars like the Z4 being relegated to "occasional use" only?

I would love not to, and keep her nice all the time, but I do, I shouldn't as, I also have a perfectly nice Honda Civic to use aswell.

I originally looked at the cost of running it as a second car, but I think within 12 months I'll need something bigger so I use mine everyday.

Lots of variables in that question. If one only owned a zed. And bought a small car because of fuel prices. That person may want to dig up their old math books.

Motor trend did a case study comparing the cost benefits of buying either a prius or another high fuel economy Toyota. And to make up the $5,000 higher price of the prius. One would have to drive the prius for 17 years to make back that $5,000 in fuel savings.

If one already owned a small car. Well, That is a lot different.

Cheers

I have a company car that i use during the week, and then at weekends the cover comes of the Z4 and the fun starts. :driving:

I have thought about using the Z4 for the occational company work, but when the fuel in the 318d is paid for i cant really justify it!

Also my Z4 is 4 years old and has only done 13,000 miles, and my 318d is 6 months old and has done 14,000! not the sort of milage i want to chuck on my baby!

Mine does 600-800 a week when I'm working in the UK, but none when I'm working abroad.

Annual mileage might be 30,000 miles one year, and 5,000 the next.

I haven't got the space for more than one car, so I have to have one car that does everything, and the only thing the only downside to the Z4 over the M5 is space.

bit of an unfair question...

technically no, but then any car I have isnt a daily driver as I take the train and cycle to work :D

Mine is used most day's for work, i would hate to use it only for weekend's .......get such a buzz driving it especially when the sun is shining with the hood down :D

I like to look at all the grumpy people in the other cars :driving:

Most definitely an everyday car for me, I have even taken it on holiday to France with me for the past 3 years. I tried running a cheap Mk 3 Golf GTi to work and back for a few months but got frustrated when I was driving it flat out and couldn't shake off a large Renault van that was right on my bumper. Between that and double insurance and tax, it just isn't worth trying to preserve the Z4 for me.

If I don't have a go at least every other day I get withdrawal symptoms. Tremors, irrational desire to go fast, short tempered outbursts etc... However, this could be a result of 40000 miles per annum in a 68mph restricted Vivaro. I love my fast car!!! :D

My other car's a motorbike

+1 - The Zed's my winter commuter, then as soon as I can get to work without freezing bits off, I'm filtering through the traffic on my Triumph. The Zed then becomes a week-end / 'forum run' hound.

The wife then ditches her e61 on the drive and uses the Zed for her commute

Okay so I am ready to be flamed. :)
We bought a 2004 3ltr to run as a "Weekender".
Why? Cos the car is unbelievably good value and unlikely to breakdown every 5 minutes. Did I mentioned that as I am (ahem) older even the insurance is cheap...
Daily drive is Touareg (or Toe-Rag as the Missus calls it).Touareg is great for trips to garden centre, hauling about bikes etc, etc.
Leaving the Zed, unmolested in the garage, for wind-in-the-hair fun and trips to the pub etc.

Must of done about 25k last year spending an average of £300-400 a month on fuel. I was thinking of selling it but decided it would be better to move closer to work :D. I have to option of getting the train or using the car when the weathers nice now
