When buying a used z4, 2 cars that meet your needs are up for sale.
Same year / same milage / same history / same condition - the price is the same for each.

#1 is absolutely stock
#2 has been remapped

Which would you buy?

Kindof - but might be useful to others too & be visibile in a future search.

In your thread you got a few people's opinion, this might give a wider view.

I’ve gone with ‘remapped’ but this is on the basis that I know who the tuner is, they are well respected, there is documentary proof and the car is running well?

I would probably look to have the car remapped anyway, so in my mind it’s a cost saving rather than a red flag

I’ve owned loads of remapped cars and never had a problem that was remap related.

still standard for me. and this is despite me being on my 4th remapped car now... i'd still rather buy standard and then get the remap done myself.

Thats the thing, remaps are on the whole in car ownership terms, pretty cheap - prefer to get standard then decide if I want more, and how much more, with the supplier of my choice, get it remapped.

one of the reasons i bought a BMW 335i a few years ago was because i knew i could get an extra 60bhp for just £300! its a shame that after that, the price of extra power gets prohibitively more expensive...

In terms of actual mods, I like to get a car with a clean slate generally, owning a car is an experience for me, I like to tinker. Probably why I usually sell after a year or so to move to the next one.

That said, when looking for the E85 I bought last month, I was quite happy to see the following mods done, roof motor relocated, pierburg waterpump done, vanos done etc. :D

Remapped. There's a good chance I will remap the car anyway. If I like it, it stays, and it's one less thing to do.

As far as mods in general, it all depends on the mods and how they are presented. If you add a whale tail, gull doors, and kart suspension, yeah, very few folk will be interested. If your mods are tasteful and useful, and you present them as improvements in riding comfort, fuel consumption, safety, etc, far more folk will be interested.

For example, my auxiliary left foot brake pedal. Very, very few folk will understand it, much less like it. If I were selling the Zed, I'd remove it, and gift it to the buyer after the sale is completed. The black grilles, the black headlamps, the window tinting, the steering wheel, etc, I wouldn't even mention. I bet many won't even notice it. The KWV3 coilovers, I'd say the OEs were done --true--, and the choice was to the replace with OEs, or with superior brand, which actually improve comfort and steering --also true.

Yeh I guess the whole range of mods is quite varied - trying to stick to the one single question as per the poll.

It's not would you get a remap.

It's which would you choose when ponying up your money between 2 otherwise identical cars - a stock unmodified car VS one that had been remapped.

Stock for me, not into modding these days, don't need the extra power (yes I know), don't track my cars so what's the point as driving on the road is not a pleasure these days between dawdling Doris and Arsehole Ash with his baseball cap on backwards driving like he cant go below 120mph even in a 30mph zone and don't mention parking anything nice where so idiot will smash their Dorito your pride and joy as they couldn't care less about others people property.

The seller can say 'remapped' and fill you with a load of bull about it all. Even producing a rolling road print out does not guarantee that is what is in the car now.
For me, start with a blank canvas and make it your own.

I voted stock but I am with true blue on this one. If it's modified, it depends on who has done it and what has been modified. I have always bought my cars stock and then modified them afterwards. My first modified car, a E30 325i was heavily modified by Birds / Hartge and I had no problems selling that car, it sold within two weeks but it was done by a reputable garage using reputable parts. It's one car a really regret selling!

I think the most important item is the owner, if i look at the owner & think to myself that he’s an idiot I’d be inclined to find another car wether it’s remapped or not :|

Ahhh...that could explain why I'm having no joy selling mine! :D

Only thing is no-one has come round to see that I'm an idiot yet.
