Exactly what it says on the tin. Which do you have fitted.
Feel free to post about the origin, price and signal quality of what must be the most popular modification on this site...

We're whippers so an early lead for the whips and a lead which I feel we will not see again.

I had a (Mangowalk) stubby for a couple of months when I first bought the car as I thought it suited the car better.

Took it off as I noticed a higher level of signal degradation on my Welsh/Peak District runs and on some parts of the M40.

Only recently put a stubby back on (a genuine BMW Sport one) and didn't really notice any poor reception on the M40 so assumed the Mangowalk was dodgy. That was until I noticed I had poor reception in some areas during the National Meet last weekend. Started as a light crackle and then the crackle took over completely, retuning didn't help so I turned the radio off.

Have the whip in the boot ready to go back on.

Stubby purchased via eBay from Citroen I believe.
An absolute steal at something silly like £3.47 with free delivery.

Signal isn't amazing, the whip was better but only really listen to Radio 1 & Radio 2 anyway and it's fine for that.

Stubby, tried both neither seem to work very well so stuck with the stubby just because it looks better

I currently have a Richbrook stubby which at the time I thought was better than the whip.

Now I realise it looks like a permanent black marker poking up in the air so it will soon be gone.

Still gonna stay with a stubby though. The stubbier the better I say. :D

Bee sting stubby off e-bay
Only use the radio for Radio 5 when the footie is on and local FM for news occasionally
I did it for the looks and was surprised to find the reception was better than the whip - even out here in the sticks :D

When I first joined I bought a Citroen stubby and immediately lost reception, suffered this for about 4 weeks then thought what the hell am I doing, felt like a teenager with. His jeans down past his backside in the name of fashion so for the last 2 1/2 years whippy. :o

Tail docking should be banned

The external twig acts as the FM2 diversity receiver (covers part of the FM band width unavailable on the bumper aerial) for certain wavelengths & signal qualities so may not be noticed depending on the channel and where you are. If BMW could have got away with a cheap-as-chips Citroen item I'm sure they would have, several members have regretted the swap but at least it's reversible :)

Agree with above.

Tried a BMW sport rod. IMO whip looks better

Come on.... Who listens to the radio in a roadster when you've got that engine note singing to you?

I'd have preferred it if the rear wing had been left clean and smooth with no aerial at all - that would have been even cheaper for BMW

Mango walk 3" stubby, was on the car when I bought it but I had one on my last car that I got from a forum member gratis.

No problems with signal degradation, but then I live and travel mostly in a place where there's always signal, and when I'm in places with mountains the stereo is either off or I'm not listening to the radio.
