Little advice please, I have recently purchased an E89 with enhanced Bluetooth (no idrive) my phone has paired no issues re: making and receiving calls etc.. But I cant pair my music from my iPhone 6 or listen to audio via google maps. I'm I missing something? The car has just an aux input too, no usb port. Sorry in advance for the foolish question, I'm not very technical.

Cheers

There are no daft questions, just the one you don't ask 8)

Is it the same issue as this thread?

I have iDrive on my E89 and can pair my iPhone 8 via Bluetooth but it won’t play music. As far as I am aware they won’t. I can only play music via the aux port and control volume through the steering wheel.

Cheers for the reply fella's, would a y-cable make any difference? I picked up a cheap aux cable yesterday and its plays, but as mentioned no track control via the steering wheel.

No, the Y cable has a USB fitting and aux connection at one end and the iPhone fitting at the other

What year is your car? I'm also new to Z4 ownership, 5 weeks in and really loving it so far. It's a 2011 2.3si Msport
I have an iPhone 6s and it pairs up via the Bluetooth no problem, I then go to external devices on the menu press ok and my iPhone shows up on screen, click ok and its all up and running and I can control tracks and volume through the steering wheel controls. I don't know the differences yet between models but did sort of assume that if the car had the idrive system it should hook up with your phone for music, phone contacts, etc, etc. I could be wrong though.

Sorry OP for the thread hijack

You have to go into the menus and change the phone from telephone mode to media mode. The old BT on the E89 can't do both, you can either pair for music OR handsfree - not both.

Personally I plug mine in the USB port in the armrest. That way the phone is secure and charging, music over USB works and BT deals with hands free calls  .

Slightly off topic, but relevant-ish I bought this two weeks ago (my second Z4) Maniac I've been reading many of your posts re roof seals and the cleaning of white leather, so thanks. I've already primed a search for black leather seats, as the maintainence of these is already brutal. Love the car tho :driving:

I had a similar problem after buying my zed. You can buy a aux bluetooth dongle via amazon or ebay. Connect one end to the aux input and because you have no usb like me connect the other end of the dongle to the power port. Then connect your phone to the aux bluetooth aux. Youll have two connections one bluetooth connection to the car so you can make phone calls and another to the bluetooth aux so you can play music. Because its via the aux port theres no dip in quality. The sad part about it is in order to change the songs you will need to do that via the phone and cannot be done with the steering wheel. in order to get that functionality smart watches allow you to change the track, or a bluetooth media controller.

Quite abit of hassle if i should confess, but ive tried it all. The last thing you can do is connect amazon echo dot to your car and use alexa! see ben raynes video on youtube hopefully that should help.

Pauly,
Simple solution, plug your phone into the AUX socket then use a Media Bluetooth Button to control the phone, as per link....

Or you could go full bore with a nice Android screen addition to your current set up.....
