Yep I suppose if I bought the hood new £595 Plus £280 to fit it would be £875

Do they have a good rep? That sounds a bit cheap or theyve under esyimate the job. Any numpty can set themselves up as a specialist but it's finding a good one that's the hard bit.

They can't fit me in till the end of July so I will probably leave it till the autumn

the fact they're booked up for a month is usually a good sign (obviously no guarantees). It will be interesting to see what you think of them once you've had it done.

As with most things I know nothing about fitting a new roof, but based on the comments I would have thought that £280 fitted, £530 all in, is a good deal.

Yep. Nightmare stuff (in my opinion) I've never tried it, but have seem the complexity of the roof in its bare state.

Taking a whole roof out and refitting is a good days work, so add to that changing the skin as well doesn't bear thinking about, unless Edward scissors hands has had a pop at your car overnight and its an absolute necessity. Best route is to buy the whole roof and frame together. There are so many rivets and attachments between the lining and the outer skin that you wouldn't normally appreciate.

Why are you buying it Si, and what is the necessity ?

4 hours on my drive didn't even take the frame out just replace the skin unbelievable and really not that difficult when I watched him

You'd have to take the frame out I would think as it fixes to the hoop that's bolted to the bulkhead ???

It would be worth posting his details up, if its that quick and he's good as its a question I often get asked when repairing roofs where the owners have small scuffs or tears.

Si, Can you post up the details of who you used as a few people are asking me to do this and I dont want to take it on.
I assume that you didnt use the Hoodguys as you said they couldn't do it until end of July yet you had it done earlier ?

I wouldn't say that is an absolute bargain, but you've done all right and will come out on top. A hood for a MX5 can cost you that much and it's not nearly so nice a bit of kit.

It is an absolute bargain, considering I paid around double that price for mine.

If you bought something in a shop with 50% off, you'd be well chuffed.
