Picked up a bargain now the hard bit

Managed to pick up a BAS international Z4 hood today for the grand sum of £250 I think they retail up somewhere around about £595
The guy I bought it off brought it to fit on his Z but before he could do it his car was written off by 17 year old coming out of a side street!!!
He had it up for sale at £400 but didn't have any interest so I just made a cheeky last minute bid......
So my question is, is this going to be a nightmare to fit? has anybody had any experience of fitting them before.
I can see there is lots of videos on YouTube on how to remove the whole roof and frame then I take it it's just a case of swapping everything over I hope

Great buy! but I would probably pay a specialist to fit it as its a bit of an art form.

8 hour job time to fit :o the guys who fitted my roof managed it in 7, but said it was very labour intensive.

You're looking at around £400-500 for a proper place to fit it, which will still be cheap for a new roof fabric, if you went down that road.

Does the 8 hours include removing the old one? If so and you go down the route of paying someone to fit it, perhaps save some money by removing the old one yourself?

None of this nonsense with a coupe you know :P

Yes it does, I guess that's probably a couple of hours work in itself

It's a BIG job. Not so much complicated, but an absolute pig to get it to sit right and look perfect on the frame. I've done 2, but won't be doing a 3rd...Not even at silly ££..

Yep. Nightmare stuff (in my opinion) I've never tried it, but have seem the complexity of the roof in its bare state.

Taking a whole roof out and refitting is a good days work, so add to that changing the skin as well doesn't bear thinking about, unless Edward scissors hands has had a pop at your car overnight and its an absolute necessity. Best route is to buy the whole roof and frame together. There are so many rivets and attachments between the lining and the outer skin that you wouldn't normally appreciate.

Why are you buying it Si, and what is the necessity ?

Maybe I've been a bit naive here :D but my roof has always looked terrible I've dyed it twice and it's still looks dreadful, and to cap it all is now beginning to get a hole just above the driver's door..... so I thought what the hell it's a bargain I'll give it a go or I'll get somebody else to do it for me

Probably not the greatest of bargains once you factor in fitting charges but as you say hole forming and seen better days may be worth it plus it will look fantastic when done post pics when it’s done good luck

any advice apart from getting somebody else to do it

Just been quoted £280 to fit the roof so that'll make a grand total of £530 for a brand new roof I don't think that's to bad

Do they have a good rep? That sounds a bit cheap or they've under estimate the job. Any numpty can set themselves up as a specialist but it's finding a good one that's the hard bit.

They can't fit me in till the end of July so I will probably leave it till the autumn
