Phone Trackers

Does anybody have any knowledge of mobile phone trackers?

I have just been given a new work phone, a galaxy s3 mini. I thought i should put a tracker on it for in case it gets lost/stolen. Does anybody know much about these apps?

I know Apple does its "Find iPhone" but know nothing about Android.

However....if its a work phone, does it matter, just so long as you take reasonable care of it?

However, worth looking into.

i installed an app and it works but not if the phone is turned off, so seems pointless

Will anything work if the phone is off? The iPhone one shows the current location...not sure if it shows last known location if the phone is off.

What if the phone is factory reset?

i can't see the point of them then, if anybody pinches a phone first thing they will do is power it off and presumable then put in a new simm card

Yeah, but a new sim alone won't stop it working I wouldn't have thought, and yes, they might turn it off, but it will have to be used at some point.

Make sure its got a pin code when turning on.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chirp up soon.

Any app worth it's salt will be based upon the phone's IMEI not the sim card.

Avast! does this for Android, but I think that for the full functionality the phone needs to be rooted. Will work let you do this?
