Petrol Prices!

Seems to me that politicians basically want to stop the car/motorbike being a passion, a hobby, a weekend toy and just get us into trains and buses to go everywhere! :|

If your Z4 is a second car, just think, how much value do you get out of your road tax payment a year! :o

Well Mrs CJ filled the X5 yesterday and we smashed the £100 tank in style with £108 :headbang:

That's getting painful, but when you work out the depreciation dynamics, loan repayments, higher tax for a new although more efficient model, it doesn't work to change it and I'm not swapping out to a banger that will likely cost a shed loads in repairs, give me no enjoyment, etc.

I see they were saying on TV last night that this summer petrol could hit 150p a litre!! :o

I was actually thinking recently about what the immediate future was for petrol prices. This is bad news. :x

I feel most sorry for the ordinary working man who has an old banger, and needs a car for work etc

I feel more sorry for the old an infirm that need a car to get around who are on government ruined crap pensions!

Hey, don't talk about me like that! :) thank god I don't have to rely on the Pension Mr Brown gives us

getting painful indeed, and no end in sight.

politicians have blinkers on - and always will - to the needs and views on the street

for me the zed is effectively a weekend car as I already use train and pedal power to commute - if more people got the train to work the trains and infrastructure simply could NOT cope :(. To do otherwise would simply take too long every day (2 hour drive each way with traffic). An expensive luxury for sure, but as CJ says - the cost to change to something more reliable is not really worth it.

we have a Mazda 2 Sport which accordingly to the blurb does circa 50mpg average - don't believe it for a second, we struggle to get 35 out of it :o which means it actually needs filling after less miles than the zed does.

anyways I enjoy driving too much to stop :driving:

Does anyone know if the fuel prices/duty have been mentioned in these political "debates"????

I used to catch the train into Leeds from Pudsey.

It was difficult at the best of times. Packed into trains with only two carriages for 100 commuters. No air, smelly people in my face, no room to move...horrible at times. But you got to work hey-ho..

I saw a few people faint in the two years i caught the trains, and one lady puked her guts out besides me...

When they were working, they worked well. Other time, just chaos..

I'm thinking about a new Ford Ka 1.3 diesel as a daily runabout :?

I've just bought a Peugeot 306 Diesel for £450. Even doing 6k a year at this point I break even as long as tax and insurance are covered in the saving of fuel. Factor is much cheaper parts as well.

My only issue now is how oftern will I drive the Z4 :(

Trouble with buying a second, cheaper car to use daily is the insurance! I have an old Diahatsu Terrios to get around in, but I've only owned it for just under 3 years so my no claims discount on it isn't much, which means it only costs £35 less a year to insure than my Z4 35i!! :o

Here we go again!!! :

Yep, glad I bought my old banger now, averaging 54mpg at present :D as the more I drive the more I save if that makes sense.

I think you should share your savings as after all, it was us that persuaded you to go that route. Otherwise you would now be driving a rep mobile ...

I bought a bike/child carrier in the form of a Peugeot 306 Diesel meaning I can now get my ///M which was my original plan from 2 years ago.

Even my wife is happy with this plan for once. :D

These savings will be lost when I get the ///M, and it's all your fault.

Commission is only payable on past performance, not future :P

Just filled up at Tesco which is normally very competitively priced, 129.9 for Super Unleaded. Was 123.9 a couple of weeks back. I dread to think how much Shell are charging for V Power now. Even the cheap stuff was 124.9, bloody joke

Bringing out the dead with this thread but bloody hell prices have gone nuts now, I just got 20litres for near 27 quid. A quick hoon later ;) and its all gone! 136 per litre for vpower...er WTF? Might have to go on boggo fuel for a while and see how I get on :( Apparently it's ok as the manual recommends aki91 which is our standard 95ron right? How's everyone else finding the new prices?

Commuting 3 days per week on the bicycle from now on, saves me 3700 miles per year and reduces my fuel bill by about £1000.
