Petrol Prices!

You are paying £1.275 / liter for petrol in the UK?!
Holy crap that is incredibly expensive - at least 50% higher than what we are paying in the "other" hemisphere.
Then again, our cars are a lot more expensive

£1.30 by me this morning. BP Ultimate is almost £1.35!
Seems to be going up every 2 days around here!! Profiteering me thinks!

Rumours are saying it could hit £1.50 by June!! :?

wish they still charged in gallons, every time it goes up 2 or 3 pence a liter thats say 10p or more a gallon, who recalls the day when you would drive to the next petrol staion if it was a penny cheaper (per gallon)

It was 30p a litre when I first came to the UK ...

Never got the hang of gallons.

I've dropped out of vpower usage as an experiment, bumbling around town doesn't really call for full fat fuel in these extraordinary times. I'll see how my mpg and driving experience goes...

I'm sure I remember a time when it was £2 a gallon

Going by my sales receipt for my new Lotus Cortina in 1965 I got 8 Gallons for £2-1s-0

I would rather the duty went up further and not pay road tax, I think that would be better for Jo Bloggs that only uses his car for work

Not a bad point actually... paying only for the miles you drive.

definately agree, why should you pay tax on 2, 3 or 4 cars etc, you only drive 1 at once, if i use the roads more i should pay more, so add it to petrol

..and why insure 4 when you can only drive one? :headbang:

Just got back from another week in France though and got introduced to 95-E10 (took a small petrol car to keep fuel costs down) which is becoming avaliable in supermarket and some autoroute stations. Not premium for the Zed as its only 95RON but it has 10% bio-ethanol in it and is 12-15c cheaper than the general price of 1.50-1.60 euros for unleaded. Seemed to perform just as well as standard unleaded so be interested to see if it makes it over here with the same price differential...something tells me it won't!

because while you're out driving one, the other three could get stolen, or damaged/vandalised

admittedly, you could (with complications) split the insurance into driving insurance and vehicle insurance maybe
so the driver is insured once for any damage they may cause when out driving
and each car is insured separately for any damage/loss that happens to it

...that was a bit of a blonde moment on my part wasn't it!

But as you say, reduced liability on the other three ought to make for a lower overall price...personally I'd be happy to insure the most expensive vehicle and pay a nominal F&T price for the others? But then since when did the UK insurance industry want to give anything away.... :(

Reviews of that fuel is that it can seriously damage your engine though.

Blimey I'd better get googling! I know it says on the pumps that its only guaranteed to work on post-2000 vehicles (older ones need checking on their website), but I assumed that was a rubber fuel pipe/seal issue or something..... :o
