petrol consumption ?????? Cant be right can it??

I've had 400 miles between filling up on a motorway run from my 3.0si - but as little as 200 on my country roads... Averaging about 240 before filling up.

I have a 3.0 Coupe. Average is about 320-350 per tank at between 30-33mpg.
Best has been anout 450 miles on one tank at 39mpg. This was on an extended motorway trip from the north west down to bristol and back, driving smoothly between 65-75mph.
 
My 2.2i computer is currently showing 34mpg but i have had this up to 38mpg on a long motorway journey.
 
I get 20mpg with careful driving on my //MR. I would say if u r getting same on £20, mate u should be happy and crying
 
I drive mine enthusiastically and get 28mpg average. Always run it on super unleaded.
 
I certainly don't let the engine labour in too high a gear when accelerating :D The safe operating range is upto 6 k so may as well make use of what is given to you providing the engine oil is upto operating temperature, plus it sounds good and seems to respond well to the occassional italian tune up :evil:

I'm suprised the 2.2 is getting such low mpg, I've had 34 mpg on a motorway run (the newer 3.0si seems better still), perhaps the torque and extra gear helps, you don't have to thrash the 3.0 to make decent progress.

Not sure about economy but my 265bhp 3.0 runs much better on Optimax. I`ve used it most of the time I have had the car but recently had to use normal unleaded. The car wasn`t the same, there was definately some hessitation on acceleration I think between 2-3000rpm. The owners manual states the engine is designed to run on 98 ron so i`m going to make sure I`m always using it (like I always have done previously). I was unlucky and found myself out of fuel at a petrol station with no optimax :thumbsdown:

The original post suprised me. Yes the petrol engines will use up to double the fuel of a 118d. My old 320td Compact returned 56-58mpg, the Z4 3.0 more like 30mpg
 
Late 20's on average, with early 30's on a run if I can keep the speed below 80. Mine's a 3.0 manual.
 
door to door on a 70 mile trip with lots of motorway the other day i got a rather handsome 49mpg, 2.0's rock :D
 
One thing to remember is that the range calculation is a moving value that changes as a function of average mpg and remaining fuel. If you fill the tank after a period of city travel and check the range, you can then actually see the range figure increase if you get the car out on a motorway and at constant speed. Spooky. It's like it's making fuel. However the converse is also true. One finial thing. When the computer says five miles of range, better figure you are going to be a pedestrian in 10 miles. It's not far off. Don't ask me how I found this out.
