Hi, on eBay there is a company claiming power increases up to 376 hp and torque 399 NM for £119.90 , does anyone on here have experience with these chips and some advice as to invest or run a mile ? Cheers

I have one that'll give you 500bhp.... it's going for nine bob and a bag of penny chews. Bargain

I'd run further than a mile :poke:

Even the companies that only offer 10-15bhp charge at least double that, and they offer your money back if you don't feel it's done anything.

The only way you'll get any gains is by doing live mapping on a rolling road, which will simply optimise a standard map to suit your engine's characteristics, which might be a little less torque but more peak power, or vice versa - or it might simply put an artificial 'step' in the power delivery to make it feel like you've been given a power boost.

If you do go down the dyno route, then make sure your car is not removed from the rollers between runs, as a small difference in how a car is strapped down can increase/decrease your measured real-wheel figure by as much as 10%.

What engine? Do you have the link to the e-bay site?
I had a chip remap done and was told that you should never trust any company that promises loads of horse power without an actual test bench run... BMW gets pretty much the most out of its engines and in general you can't win a lot more. I had a gain of 15 BHP on my 2.2i en that costed me 450 euro...

This fuel additive is just the ticket for Veyron busting. It also takes 10 years off your age and increases your attractiveness to the opposite sex better than Lynx

Such unprofessional responses guys :|

There have been many advancements in this area with huge leaps made the the ability to open up power and torque gains for comparatively little money by writing a new 'map' over the cars existing parameters whilst keeping the car within the safety limits.

This however is a stinking, festering piece of unadulterated shite that's been turned out by a bloke who is in all likelihood able to fellate himself whilst playing duelling banjos on his pubes........he's basically an advanced w***er.

It shouldn't matter what people ask on a forum, we're not all experts. I came to the forum to learn more about my Zed, surely I will ask questions that seem serious to me and ridiculous to others. What are we doing if we can't ask questions although we call ourselves the "most friendly forum" out there?

:telloff:

OK, you may shoot me now :)

Just for anyones record I was taking the piss...........this was a mong of a question and deserved the ribbing it has received.

You CAN get gains from a remap but as others mentioned even reputable companies don't claim that big a gain or even hard figures at that. Most say you'll see a peak gain of up to 15hp. Plus there's often a difference in power gain even from car to car! I've read an article where they installed the same remap brand in two mechanically identical E46 M3's and for some reason one consistently posted more power even stock and was noticeably faster on the road...

Its unfortunate that this has been discussed in detail on the forum many times. So is more likely to get silly responses
