Paul Walker RIP

To be fair he also had a TV camera following him!

Must admit if I was there I would have put my phone away at that point.

So yes GuidoK, your continued banging on about road safety is tasteless and doesn't have a place in this thread.

..... if you had read this thread/my posts you would have known that I was the first person here to point that out, in my fist post in this thread nota bene.
By naming a discussion about road safety (from which I think only good can come of, especially regarding an incident like this) tasteless is imho the same as aknowledging that it is OK to drive extremely recklessly.
But I don't think you realise that.
If the crash had killed a kid on the sidewalk in the process this discussion would have been totally different. And that that didn't happen is imho a result of luck.

And when you said:
I find it laughable that the armchair accident investigators on here have condemned the passenger.
I presume that you mean me for the armchair investigator...
Where have I condemned Paul Walker? If you read my posts, you'll see that I have consistently condemned the incident, not Paul Walker.
But I think more people here did not see that difference.

Whats equally saddening is the culture that exists where a grieving friend and colleague is filmed by onlookers smartphones in some sort of group media trace.

You couldn't make this sh*t up.
Some people just have no shame or respect.

Oh, don't be so rude it's not mockery, just a joke - that might be funny to some people. I thought it would help "soften the atmosphere" .

That doesn't mean I don't have respect for the man. Someone dying that young - it's always tragic.

Please remove the Clip, it's not funny to be honest and bit disrespectful. I know you're trying to be lighthearted but there is a time and place for it.

+1 :(

GuidoK , it is a public forum so yes feel free to say what you want. You've said it. Move on. We get it, probably most if us understand it, but to be honest I don't really care for it and don't see why you keep on chipping in trolling. Go onto the THINK forum or something, or make up a new thread about road safety and I'm sure nobody would disagree with you.

I'm sure we all condemn what happened - they shouldn't have got into the situation in the first place. Thankfully no third parties suffered, and you simply can't comment and I don't condone it but who says they hadn't unofficially closed the road ?!?! Just saying, as it looked very quiet.

So yes we get your point. Point made. Stop rubbing everyone up the wrong way on a thread that was opened to pay some respect to someone a lot of us admired.

well said. the road safety aspect, or any other hypothetical victim that wasn't involved, is not really up for discussion.

I read on t'interweb (so we all know that is correct info and set in stone) That there were 'figure of eight' & donut tyre marks where it happened.

doesnt take reading on the tinterweb to figure out that they were travelling far in excess of the speed limit hence why they lost control, split the car in half and turned it into a fireball...... i've never seen a hyper car do that at 30mph on a dry road, behaving in a civilised way but if you find a youtube clip, please post it

News.....

"The supercar that actor Paul Walker was in when he died was racing another vehicle at speeds of more than 100mph when the fatal crash occurred, witnesses claim.
Police are investigating tip-offs from possible witnesses that the Porsche driver Roger Rodas was in the middle of a street race at the time, TMZ reports.
And other reports today claim the Porsche GT was going 100mph just moments before the crash despite traveling through a 45mph zone.
'Though the investigation is in its early stages, investigators from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department believe the Porsche was going over 100 mph,' a source close to the investigation told Radar."

I'm trolling? I don't see it that way at all.
If you want to know why: (if you dont want to know... dont read my post).

Paul Graham is famous for making a diagram that rates responses in a discussion, called 'Graham's hierarchy of disagreement', with the top type of argument being the best one (structually) in a discussion and the bottem one as the worst:
600px-Graham%27s_Hierarchy_of_Disagreement.svg.png

my first post in this thread imho complies to the top section of the pyramid.
The response to that (next post) falls into the category of the 4th (5th?) section:"I'm not really interested in getting on a high horse over.."
Within that post I disputed "a couple of young blokes" as "middle aged men (38&40) with kids themselves". Catgory 3? 4?
part of the next response:"Happy? Karma all balanced in your world? Splendid.": category 5? 6?(argumentem ad hominem)...
Followed by the response of the same person: " a shitty self-rightous way of thinking". Namecalling? (category 7)

The content of next person to say something also falls into the 5th category and from there on it's pretty much the same regarding the personal addressing.

I believe that I made a valid point on the discussed matter (and I'm not even the only one, not here and certainly not on the rest of the internet or in the world), but apparently I'm not allowed to make a reply when people adress me personally or even lower themselves to name calling? Thats the perception I get on this side of the schreen.

GuidoK ... You have far too much time on your hands. That's the best constructed turd I've seen, doh - put me in category 7 ;-)

I actually agreed with your points, stated that I'm sure most of the people on this forum do, but I said take it to another place if you're going to just say the same things again and again. It is obvious the accident shouldn't have happened. From the onset you can see the car before hand with an r8 so perhaps all too obvious what may have indeed have been happening. But start another thread to raise a debate on rights and wrongs. I'm not here to make enemies, takes too much effort.

Granted, you pointed out the driver was not Paul Walker. I do realise a discussion regarding road safety is relevant to the subject, however in MY opinion it is not appropriate on this thread, especially as he was not the driver. If it's that important to you that the issues are discussed, start another thread.

Nope, not just you, there are others missing the point of the thread too - only my last comment was directed at you personally. However looking back you consistently refer to 'they', inferring that both parties are to blame, so I stand by my comment.

Tbh I'm annoyed that I've even allowed myself to be drawn into this - it's not the place for it.

is clearly responding to tone, it's not even up for debate.

if you're going to try and be smart, quote obscure IT types and attack entire communities, I'd put just a little bit of thought into what you're saying.

irrespective of the circumstances surrounding his death, it is a tragedy, and I don't really see the need to try and score points under these circumstances.

by all means start another thread, entitle it 'come and have a go' and behave in as pugnacious a fashion as you want, that way we will all ignore you.

The triangle is interesting. It's also a great little party trick if you're the sort of person who cares about jousting with strangers on the Internet for a pronged period.
