Passenger Airbag Disable - coding help

I am working out how to retrofit passenger airbag disable to an early E85. I have all the parts and thanks to ron2580’s incredibly helpful guide, I have modified the key barrel so that it works with the car key. Next I will need to be able to code the car for the retrofit. I have the usual ISTA/INPA (?) software that comes free with BCables.

Can anybody tell me how to code it?

Does it actually need coding?

Cruise control retrofit says it needs coding, but it doesn’t. It could just be to update the Vehicle Order, which has no functional effect.

Yes, it does need coding. I got a replacement airbag ECU, and it was coded for deactivation, which my car doesn't have. It threw lights and errors until I removed the option from the airbag ECU.

I can't remember the name of the option, but there's two places (I think) where it was defined. It was very obvious when using NCS Dummy

If you pull the trace using NCS Expert, and then run it through NCS Dummy, it should be obvious what to enable

This is a great written guide on how to use NCS Expert: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1800496-Dummies-Guide-to-Basic-coding-with-NCS-Expert

I have heard of this on the facelift ASCM modules, but not previously on the prefacelifts with SIM85, SBSL and SBSR.

Ah, mine was 2006 (coupe, so definitely a facelift).

I guess you could compare the traces with NCS dummy, as that'll show different 'coding orders' (as long as you have the right datens), but I defer to learned experience as others know more than I do!

I don't think I 'know more'. Just checking with you as I know the systems are completely different.

So all the references I could find said coding was required, however it is possible these only relate to later cars. At least I have a better idea of how NCS Expert works if coding is required.
