Passenger Airbag Disable - coding help

I am working out how to retrofit passenger airbag disable to an early E85. I have all the parts and thanks to ron2580’s incredibly helpful guide, I have modified the key barrel so that it works with the car key. Next I will need to be able to code the car for the retrofit. I have the usual ISTA/INPA (?) software that comes free with BCables.

Can anybody tell me how to code it?

Does it actually need coding?

Cruise control retrofit says it needs coding, but it doesn’t. It could just be to update the Vehicle Order, which has no functional effect.

Yes, it does need coding. I got a replacement airbag ECU, and it was coded for deactivation, which my car doesn't have. It threw lights and errors until I removed the option from the airbag ECU.

I can't remember the name of the option, but there's two places (I think) where it was defined. It was very obvious when using NCS Dummy

If you pull the trace using NCS Expert, and then run it through NCS Dummy, it should be obvious what to enable

This is a great written guide on how to use NCS Expert: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1800496-Dummies-Guide-to-Basic-coding-with-NCS-Expert

I have heard of this on the facelift ASCM modules, but not previously on the prefacelifts with SIM85, SBSL and SBSR.

Ah, mine was 2006 (coupe, so definitely a facelift).

I guess you could compare the traces with NCS dummy, as that'll show different 'coding orders' (as long as you have the right datens), but I defer to learned experience as others know more than I do!

I don't think I 'know more'. Just checking with you as I know the systems are completely different.

So all the references I could find said coding was required, however it is possible these only relate to later cars. At least I have a better idea of how NCS Expert works if coding is required.

Hi
I am very interested in this thread : I am struggling to replace my sim module on a 03 Z4 (without airbag deactivation key) by a later version coming from a car with this option : i am totally unable to code it as NCS expert told me it is an "index 05" and my car calls for a "04". However references appears totally compatible in real-oem. I have obviously error codes linked to airbag deactivation hardware....any idea how to retrofit the right coding on my car to use this new module? I understand you were in the same situation? Thanks for your advices!

I never did this in the end and no longer have that car. I recommend you start a new discussion topic asking for the specific help you need.

I have read through and printed off the excellent guide above.
my z4 is a 2004 and has the wiring already present for the airbag key, which I've disabled in the barrel. i have to assume and will check that the wiring is also present for the indicator near the gear stick, opposite the sport button. ill initially plug in the parts to see if they work. failing that I'll carefully follow the guide to see if i can identify how to activate the function.

never used NCS before so you couldn't get any more of a beginner.

EDIT
i stood in my garage and finally found the elusive download of revtors profile. The only help people online give, is that its easily searchable.
Frankly it was a pain in the arse. i got it from a YouTube video.

Once you've got the inpa package installed go to C drive / NCSEXPER and replace the PFL folder with the one I've attached to this post. unzip the folder and simply just overwrite the existing PFL folder.

by following the instructions, i was able to read the LCZ light control module and also the GM5 module. one ant a time, i read, opened amd saven the files with the appropriate .MAN extension.

it is all in German so i copied out of notepad and pasted into google translate to see what was what. i didn't need to change anything so i then exited the program.

Hi Ben, reckon I could swing by yours to code the airbag deactivation switch and light? For a fee of course

Mate.
I have the software but I'm lacking the knowledge.
I have the instructions but they need applying with the correct theory.
You're welcome to come round and see if you can work it out.

Cheers for the offer mate - would usually take it up but with a new job and young baby, just don’t have the headspace right now!
