Humm - just thinking that even with it in the boot, if the rest of your boot is packed and you have a blow out - where would you put the wheel in place of the spacesaver???

but that is a problem faced by most cars with a space saver... full boot and full complement of passengers... flat tyre = oh sh*t!

Is it tho? In my E46 i had a space saver spare but it lived in a proper space under the carpet in the boot.
Now - i never did test to see if an actual wheel would fit in the space saver space! :)

I can confirm that 255/18 R35 wheels fit in the boot of an E46 where the space saver lives. I had three punctures with my two E46's in five years. Only one puncture in the Z4 so far in 2.5 years.

Can I ask why you need a 17" spacesaver?

On my standard 3.0 which is prefacelift and judging by the signature which yours is too then the 16" fits perfectly. Common an cheap

I upgraded to a 17" only when I later fitted bigger E46 330 calipers and rotors.

In terms of jacks, etc you can strap a scissor jack in the lower NS of the engine bay right at the bottom behing the wheel arch where there is a big void. Brace and jack handle will fit int he battery box.

The £42 price posted above is the rim only. Double it at least to add the tyre

as for none on Ebay try this for 17" £40 no bids or £60 buy now - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E46-17-sp..._tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET?hash=item439cc5fe55

That's good to know about the jack storage position - I'll certainly be trying that out later for storing my jack (currently it's in a padded bag secured in the alcove on the NS of the boot).

And to add, when I bought my space-saver 12 months ago I incorrectly thought 17" was required to clear the 3.0i's front calipers - I assumed they were the same as the E46 330i's (that was the info I got at the time). Obviously now I know different! Well, hopefully I do because I'm about to try and fit 16" alloys to my 3.0i...

Hopefully the 16" alloys will fit, but I guess that depends if they are Z4 specific.

The facelift 3.0i has larger calipers and would need the 17" spare.

That was worrying :o

Just checked the (excellent) Cheap Brake Upgrade thread again... 300mm is the absolute limit for 16" rims.
(I do hope his information is right!)

Me too! :o

I used that thread on brake sizes/conversions (thanks to Peddy for pointing me in the direction of it) when determining if the 16's will fit befre progressing with these. I should find out tomorrow night for definate, and it they don't then sk93 is getting a PM :D
