Parking brake switch red light constantly on, even when car locked

Hi,
Only recently I have noticed that the little red light on the parking brake switch will always stay on..is this how it's meant to be?
Everything else in the dash and centre console switches itself off upon locking the car, but not this switch.
I have gone to the car after several hours to check, and the light stays on.
I am not 100% sure but I would have sworn that it wasn't like this before.
For the record, I have had an MMI box fitted a while ago. I am mentioning this in case it could be related.
I am not driving the car much since the beginning of January, as the amount of grit they put on my local roads is insane and the road is always wet with gritty sludge, which goes everywhere.
My concern is if this little light being permanently on could lead to the battery getting drained. If it is indeed a problem, what could the issue be?
Other than that, the parking brake switch works fine and I can engage/disengage the brake.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

My car's light goes out, or it use to.
I fitted mmi box, i will double check to see if it has gone out.
Thanks for your reply and for checking. Would you mind posting an update once you have checked it, please?
Thank you.

What does your BMW specfic fault code reader say?

The red light should go off as part of the DME power management shut down procedure…there’s a fault somewhere preventing shut down..

I am afraid that I can't check with my reader. I am away on holiday until next Sunday. But I will check as soon as I'm back. Could there be an issue with the MMI installation? My IDrive control knob in the centre console was throwing an error code last time I scanned it (although it seems to work fine).

MMI possibly but I doubt it…the problem with all these 3rd party devices is they sit on the data networks and if they s**t on it for any reason ..bad design, bad s/w poor wiring it can drag loads of other things down in highly unpredictable ways

But does it go out if i don't the lock car, try that next.

Should power down after about 30 mins max

Yes it surprising how much noise car makes sometimes standing.
Like it's scanning everything.
I think a LED left on is least of a problem, but is there some say brake fault it's throwing up.
