I don't know anything about E89 electric parking brakes, but BMWs from this era can throw up all sorts of electrical glitches when the battery dies.

It may be something as simple as a software reset to get it working, but I'd recommend finding a local BMW Indy rather than taking it to a dealership.

Something makes me think you may not be in the UK, but if you are someone on here may be able to offer recommendations if you give an indication of where you are.

Probably need a s/w update to the parking brake ECU…maybe worse..

Had the same issue with exact same cause, will be software update as Pete has said, wont be cheap at BMW, not certain an indie cant sort it although I am fairly certain someone on here did it at home

Here's an old thread on the same subject:

Have a read of the post below, if you are any good with a laptop you can use WINKFP to program it yourself.

My sister used BMW in Leatherhead for some work on her Mini and had no complaints, then she discovered GMG in Sutton where she lives so used them for servicing a few times, again with no issues.

If you don't mind travelling a bit I'd recommend RBM Hampshire in Hook as Ross does run a couple of loan cars. I've been taking both my BMWs there since they opened in 2019 and I've found them excellent.

Alternatively you may be able to book in for a "while you wait" diagnostic check which shouldn't take too long if it is just a software issue.

I had an issue with my previous car. Turned out water corrosion on the terminals for the module. Rear right in the boot. Took it out and cleaned it with contact cleaner. All good!

It’s a cheap fix if it works. If not then a good code reader and a visit to a dealer may be required 👍
