Parking Brake..... could be wrong place?

I saw a post about noise from rear to seemingly every thing was fine and possible wheel bearing.....only to narrow it down to a chuffed brake pad for the emergency/parking brake.
Hear is where I'm a lil bit confused. As I applied the emergency/parking brake (out of curiosity) and put it in neutral and it held just fine, no slip (also note the driveway is a slight incline and car parked pointing up). In drive at idle it still held but moved forward about a half foot but stuck still. In reverse it seemed to not hold any at all tho it should have.

Am I off my rocker or should it not also hold in reverse if applied?

Making me wonder if the pad is broke free from the rivets. Or some other beast I'm going to have to get looked at and add it to the list of things to get this hussy right.

Hi, it should have held in reverse as well but don't forget the car also has gravity working against it to conspire against the handbrake (you said it was parked nose up on an incline)
That could possibly explain the difference in results-park it nose down & repeat the test.

That..

And the fact there's more torque on the wheels in reverse (Lower ratio) than drive probably helps to overcome the park brakes "Grip".

TBH the park/hand brake on the Z (And most BMW's) are pretty mediocre even when brand new.

This is incorrect. In fact every single Z4 E85/86 manual model has a higher reverse ratio than 1st. Typical is around 4.3 in first and 3.9 in reverse.

Op - you can get you handbrake working perfectly by:
1) drive with it pulled up firmly for 100m. Repaeat a couple it times. That will reseat the drums and burn of any crud, rust and glaze.
2) remove a wheel (easier) and adjust the drums through the bolt hole. Fiddly to do but resets them.
3) if more than 5 clicks adjust the handbrake if the ratchet doesn't self adjust.
If you find the brake works better on a second pull them the adjustment is needed.

Correctly adjusted you could lay down 2 black stripes if you feel the need :)
