Panic buying fuel again

Result - as the general public is so thick that they don't realise that Super is fine for their sh*t boxes, there was no queue at all at Tesco as they only had 99 (@at a very good 1.36). In and out in a few minutes.

Just returned from holiday this afternoon and wondered what all the fuss has been about. Passed about 5 petrol stations en route home from Newcastle Airport and all had cars on the forecourt filling up as normal and no queues.

30 years ago I commuted in all weathers on a bike, necessity not choice. Also on shifts. I doubt you are doing it nowadays either. Public transport may well be for you, it is not for everyone.

I am not saying I use public transport all the time, just a fair amount of time. I love driving and do so every opportunity I get. I drive every day in fact, but my main car is a plug-in hybrid and I have not used it's petrol engine since I filled up on the M6 Toll Road in June. But, I am sure that a lot of people in the petrol queues could use public transport as an alternative, during times like this. Your bike looks fantastic by the way and you are correct, if I had it I wouldn't want to ride it on icy roads now.

Rode it October to January when I could, in order to get the run in service done asap. Some interesting "moments" it must be said. :D

To be fair you are in the right place to use public transport!

It was a reasonable option for me when I lived in Sutton, although soon after I started commuting to Victoria I bought a scruffy motorbike because it was quicker and I wasn't tied to a timetable!

If I wanted to get to London from here it's a mile walk to the station then go to Guildford and change for Waterloo with another change at Clapham Junction for Victoria. Or go the other way and change at Reading for Paddington.

Anyway back to petrol. From what I read earlier on a "Nextdoor" daily update it seems my nearest filling station at Tesco is closed because they have no fuel. Thankfully I don't need any just now but it does mean I'm not inclined to plan any pleasure trips!

It feels like the original 2020 lockdown - maybe that was the plan?

Aye. 2022 lockdown is gonna be a lack of shoes :o
2023 is planned as a shortage of air.
And 2034 will be a shortage of feckin batteries

Plenty of Hydrogen though.
Yes , indeed. The perfect fuel source. Plentiful, once burnt emits water. Only problem is it is one of the most volatile elements in the atmosphere.
Even more Nitrogen; shame it's no use for anything

From today's BBC News:

"And the owner of a petrol station in Bunny, Nottinghamshire, that has seen queues as long as two miles, said one customer spent just £1.60 to keep their car tank full to the brim."

FFS

I’m currently at work in Bristol, yesterday morning no fuel anywhere, by 18:30 everywhere has Petrol, it’s all good and I’m full again for the drive home to East Yorkshire, no queues at Tesco Nailsea last night

2034 :o what’s a girl supposed to do without batteries

LOL at lundun based Bee calling for everyone to use public transport
When going abroad I tend to use public transport because it actually functions at a reasonable cost in a timely and reliable manner.

I am at the stage now where I do need fuel but I begrudge going for it because I don't want to join the masses of morons brimming their tanks for £1.60

Should be plenty of lorry drivers around by then

But their average age is 55, so they will be 68 or so by then, no good for Sars 8)

I am disappointed that you think my suggestion that some people could use public transport during this 'crisis' is purely based on my local. A very poor assumption, Fifer.

There is only one answer to stop all this, use Public Transport. I do a fair amount of the time. There will always be excuses as to why people will not use Public Transport. Here are a few to get you started.

  • You are a pensioner and get free bus travel, I have to pay
The kids will get wet when it rains
People who use buses are smelly and are always close to you
I like the privacy and isolation of being in my car
I need to carry heavy stuff for my job
I know trains and planes cover the UK, but I don't like them. I prefer to travel long distances in my car
    f**k that!

Could you point out here where you said it was only aimed at "some people"?

I am not suggesting that every single journey could be done on public transport, only that a huge number of people could travel that way. From Paisley to Grangemouth I suggest using a motorcycle as public transport at that time of morning will involve trains, buses and taxi's. Just to add I cannot answer all questions but I can tell you the 'meaning of life' and why we are all on this earth. :)

Or is it a "huge number of people"?

Nothing in SE London or North Kent unless you want to queue behind a long line of beige coloured Micras or black X3s.

No comment from you on your London assumption?

You're in lundun, its unmistakably the most serviced, most funded city in the UK for public transport.... here you are pontificating to everyone or some or a huge number (you totally side swerved that so its still unknown) to use public transport when you are in a location that likely has the best PT system in the country. I'm not sure what more you want me to comment about it?

Perhaps when you settle on what you're actually trying to say rather than changing it whenever challenged we might get somewhere.
