After being sat in the zed for long stints 6-8 hrs on our eurotrip the mrs got a severe pain down her leg,a bit like sciatica, the doc recons it was her femoral nerve, after a month the pain went away, however after our Northumberland hoon over a couple of days she was sat in the car again for longish stints and now the pain has re occurred, so question is anyone else have a similar problem , either themselves or passenger, the zed aint going so need to sort it .Anyone use a cushion or anything .

What seats have you got ? the standard seats dont offer much support under the back on the leg ,gets me after a while
The sports seats are better

Can only recommend common sense stuff, like not driving 6-8 hours without a break (I hope I just misread your post). Take a 5 minute break to get out and have a stretch/walk around at least every couple of hours. You must have an awesome wife if she thinks it's fun just sitting in the passenger seat for hours on end without stopping to have a stretch or look around every now and then.
You didn't mention what sort of seats you have - could an upgrade to different seats be an option? Maybe too expensive.
Most people complain of lower back pain on long trips, but it sounds like a lumbar support wouldn't help your wife's problem?
Most in-car exercises are designed to help prevent DVT, so I don't know if they would be any help for a nerve problem. I would have thought the Dr. would have suggested them if he/she thought they would help though.
I hope others have more helpful suggestions, but I can't stress enough how much difference taking breaks makes - unless you're already doing that (it didn't sound like it from your post).
Best of luck.

Get a bolster cushion

PS both the standard and sport seats offer very little lumbar support

Have you thought about getting a new wife?

Maybe one with longer legs? :poke:
Ha ha, no one else would have me,the average stint can be 2-3 hrs as recently , and yes my wife is very tolerent,
And loves zedding,

Might sound odd, but is she wearing tight jeans or trousers that are pinching on a nerve due to sitting in the same position over a long period of time?

I can just about manage 100miles before I have to get out and stretch my legs when driving my z, it's probably due to being 6'3" and the seating position I have to adopt.

I have a similar problem. The sports seat helps with extra leg support, but short breaks every hour help me.

If you have electric ones, put the back of the seat all the way down and the front all the way up. Gives you some nice thigh support. You may need a cushion for lumbar support though.

I went to Scotland and back with no issues. Bit of an aching back but nothing terrible.

No tight jeans or clothing, we were aware of that one, its funny its occurred this year after doing several eurotrips must be an old age thing, if she resds this im dead .lol
This lateral femoral nerve as mentioned seems to be the cause just gotta work out a way round it,
Sometimes long stints are unavoidable , as recently we did Pauls Castle an coast cruze which meant we had a 13 hr day an did some 460 mls, this again set it off , will have to look into some sort of medical type cushion,

Could be coming from the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve of the thigh.
I was going to say that, but it would have just been a wild guess!

I think it's to do with the depth of the seat. I am fine in the Zed with M sport seats and the Discovey is good too. However the X-type was a real pain in the leg after an hour or so.

Hi Moz - I get this occasionally as well. I think it's the high seat bolsters on the sport seats where they 'v' into the bottom of the seat trapping the top of the thigh. For a time I used a gel seat from a motorcycle (cut the straps off) and laid it in the seat part of the sport seat, this effectively raised my thighs slightly above the pinching part of the bolster and it relieved the pain.

I'm guessing based on the reported GP diagnosis - it's unlikely to be a problem with the femoral nerve itself, unless she has a high lumbar disc prolapse (in itself uncommon).
