Pad recommendation, Overheated EBC greenstuff

Ok, so i have the following in my zeddy:

front: ebc 3gd with greenstuff
rear: stock rotors with greenstuff

After tracking, it looks like this: (what's the white substance covering the pad?)

And now it squeaks terribly, during light braking when disc are hot and after heavy braking it even squeaks when i'm not braking at all.

Solution is to change rotors and/or pads, the question is which one?

I track twice a year only and i don't want to keep on changing after a trackday just because i overcooked the pads thus destroying the rotors as well

If you track the car i would say the bear minimum should be Red Stuff pads, or even yellows stuff.

Those pads look exactly how stock honda pads did after i tracked my S2K - my disks were unwarped however so after i swapped over the pads to some Red stuff and it cured the problem.

I've just come back from a trip to the 'ring and my Yellow stuff pads struggled with heat on Turbo groove discs.I'd have a go with the red stuff pads and try to concentrate on lines and turn in points rather than be so heavy on the brakes. That's what I did and the brakes were ok,just. Remember, if you want to have really good track braking, you'll need to splash the cash on a full Brembo or AP racing set up.Ultimately, we have brakes designed for the road.

so is redstuff that better? no squealing even after tracking?

its surprising the yellowstuff struggled with heat considering its the more track oriented pad, its green < red < yellow < blue correct?

Greenstuff are only recommended on cars up to 200bhp, according to their literature. I use redstuff on my 3.0i; I don't track, but I do spirited driving on backroads.

Your disks look alright but those pads have had it. I've done the exact same thing to a set of greens before on my mk1 mr2. Cant remember the term but you've basically exceeded the pads maximum temp which causes them to go off.

anyway, the weird part is that when i used to track with the oem pads, it would fade after 5 laps but the pads never squealed after, it never became whitish as well.

Pagid Blues, i litterally cant recomend them enough. Good cold bite and will take an absolute punishment at the track. Remember Its the pads that make the real difference not the disks. i've used cheap disks from ebay before which people will tell you is a shocking admission and they have been great. Contrary to the urban myth my set of cheap ebay disks didnt overheat, crack or suffer in any strange way. They did the job perfectly.

went to my local indy and as guessed, pads were overcooked. both front pads have cracks, rear has bits falling off the edges. (pics to follow)

rotors were not damaged beyond safe use however either they warped or have hot spots since steering and brake pedal during braking pulsate.

luckily my disks were not damaged. So went ahead and replaced the pads with textar oe replacements until i order the performance pads. Like you, squealing stopped as well.

Problem is performance pads are on a special order basis here in my country so tracking the car this weekend won't be fun since i am hesitant to overcook a lesser heat resistant pad than the greenstuff and replacing them again

I use the Yellowstuffs on my Z4MC daily driver (20,000 miles, 2-3 track days and plenty of fast road use every year), and had them on my last car (e34 M5) too.

They're not the 'best' available if you're looking to spend almost £400 for a 4-wheel set of pads, but they're much better than OEM pads and I get them for my Z4M at about £80 for a 4-wheel set (marshal's get a 50% discount, so retail would be about £160/4-wheel set).

Never used Greenstuff or Redstuff, and can't justify £400 for RS19/29 pads.

I use Redstuff day to day. Cold they arent very sensetive, but they are firm and progressive (stamp em hard and youll stop!). I drove my mums Yaris for a few days and almost hit the windscreen the first few stops, there was a lot of difference! I wouldnt have them on my car if my Girlfriend were to drive it.

On spirited drives, they are excellent. Ive never tracked my Zed, but on my old VX220 they performed well over ~10 lap stints with no overheating, but that was a smaller car with relatively large brakes.

They definitely have price on their side though, and theyre British made?

ive got greenstuff that were installed about 400 miles ago, if not more. the whole thing about less dust is complete bollocks. i get more dust on my alloys than i ever did with the bmw pads, or are they still running in ?

I've been using RedStuff pads on USR discs for some time now, both for daily drive and track. Don't have anything to complain so far, RedStuff'll do the job.

I had redstuff pads on my previous car (350z). Redstuff pads are good, but would only recommend for fast road use as I have never experienced them on track. I will say that they take 5-6 applications from cold to work and never got any squeal or too much dust from them.

Would recommend, but as I said...can't tell you how they performed at the top edge of performance as I never got the chance to test them.

I am looking to buy redstuff again for the Z4M

Obviously not completely bedded in yet, but I haven't had any scary moments so far. First stop from cold the bite is obviously not as great as it could be but it's not worryingly bad.

you just said you used yellowstuff and then you said you never used yellowstuff?

its seems that a lot have been using redstuff, perhaps might give it a go since its the easier pads to source
