p0012 p1554 errors

Well,,, it might come down to the cam ledges needing to be changed or the timing reset, not sure but just for information sake the long cable which is easily moved out of the way when taking out the Vano's hooks to the bottom Vano. That cable is routed around under the Vano and extends up towards the top of the motor.

The shorter cable which routes downwards and seems very short and restricted actually hooks to the top Vano.

I'm only mentioning this because logically it would appear that they should be connected the other way, and I have made that mistake myself,,, The car still tries to run, it starts up with a rough idle and may stall. After a bit of spitting and sputtering it will kinda smooth out, but it will seem like it wants to stall at every stop sign or red light.

The code reader I have identifies the problem as an E something 82 code I think it was but it meant sticking Vano which is what the p1554 code means also.

Thanks for the reply.

The cars been runnin a couple of weeks with the new solonoids and suddenly all gone to pot again and I only fitted 1 at a time and removed the wires 1 at a time so cant be that.

Ive sent it into bmw today to be diagnosed and they contacted me to say they're gettin the same as I found so they are removing the cam cover and checking the timing.

Why would the timing move out of place on its own?

Ok new update

Had the car in bmw to be diagnosed. They've put a whole new vanos system on cos they where convinced it was that after takin the cover off and checkin cam seals etc. Turns out its not that. Had all plugs and coils replaced and injectors and still couldnt trace the fault. They've done a compression test and found cylinder 1 is down and looks like bent valve or burnt valve.

Im takin the car back off them to do it myself. I aint paying any more out.

I'm thinking could it be the hydraulic valve lifters as it does make the horrible ticking noise from time to time until its had a good run. Im wondering if a valve isnt closing properly and its more intermittent than a regular missfire which it would be if I had a bent valve
