Owner for 5 days. Passenger side totalled!

BMW said the policy only covers for a class a car and that's it. Assume because it was 7 days free BMW insurance, it's a basic policy.

Anyway they said if I want, I can have a car arranged by a third party car hire company called CCL who will seek costs direct themselves from third party.

I'm wary of this option though as the 3rd party company hasn't registered the accident yet so who's to know what they'll say to wriggle themselves out. Notwithstanding that I have two witnesses who will testify he admitted fault at the scene and the damage is conducive with a side on collision from someone else hitting me when I was in motion.
 
If that was mine, i'd hope it'd be written off. I drove around in an accident repaired S2000 for over 12 months after I crashed it and it just never felt the same. I wished that had been written off at the time.

At least that would mean you can simply go out and buy another one which hasn't been damaged.

Hope you get it all sorted out though.

Don't forget though that in the future, you still need to let your insurers know that you've been involved in a non-fault accident.
 
Gone are the days you can expect to get like for like unless you can prove a specific need - towing a trailer, seating 5 people, 4WD due to work environment, etc.
Most insurance companies cottoned onto that a few years back and made the policy specific as a A class car, but not beofre my buddy made his millions out of supplying like for like usually via third party companies :)

Not used a third party company for a few years but be careful about liability for extra hire car costs if the other driver's insurance doesn't pay out.
 
Unbelievably I've just had a call from BMW. They say it's repairable but haven't had it up on a jig yet to fully access with effected parts off. Despite that, they've ordered parts already.

In a way I'm happy because I won't have to spend ages trying to find a new car. But on the other hand I will always know its been damaged.

Presumably I will have to tell the next buyer about the crash so it'll be a lot harder to sell on.

Really there should be some compensation for that.

Oh and they're giving me a mini clubman on Thursday as will take about a month to sort.

I thought it would be a repair job. As to informing a future buyer? it's a matter of conscious, you don't have to volunteer it but if you are asked you can't lie. All I would say is that a significant number of used cars have had some sort of paint/bodywork repair including those sold by main dealers, it's just you rarely know about it.
 
A lot of BRAND NEW cars have repair work done to rectify damage in transit.. so should you declare it based on that no. Should you want to.. its entirely up to you.
 
Company I used give you a contract they will not claim from you, that's why they only accept if they are 100% sure it wasn't your fault....up to you, call them before you accept it

My E-class was repaired last year after taking a heavy passenger side impact when it was 6 months old (new front wing, new front passenger door, repairs to rear passenger door and rear wing for starters). The repairs, carried out by a Mercedes approved repairer, also included cutting out and replacing part of the passenger compartment safety cell and I can honestly say that the car looks, feels and drives exactly the way it did when I first drove it out of the dealers. The repairer told me that they only maintain they manufacturer approved status by being able to repair a car to the same build quality as when it came out of the factory. I would imagine the situation is the same for a BMW dealer.

Hopefully that reassures you a bit about the repairs
 
I don't think you have to declare it I never did on one of my previous cars after it had been hit by a drunk driver. Although i did trade it in and the dealer never asked any questions about accidents and repairs. The repair was perfect and the car was as good as new when I got it back. I'd just make sure you are happy with the repair before you accept the car back. Glad you are ok and that it's getting sorted.
 
As a PS to my post about E-class repairs, I asked about having to declare the accident and repairs and was told that only repaired write offs have to be declared.
 
I don't know about the UK, but in the Netherlands BMW repairs are certified and are said not to diminish resale value as they should be repaired as good as new with only Original parts and paint.
 
Total bill including parts and labour so far is £4,040.

But they didn't look at the rear scuffed wheels scratched mirror and broken glove box. told them to check over the roof too.

Surprisingly, the hinges have warped on the door but they say they can realign them without compromising there integrity.

So, a lot less than I thought. Good job I spoke to the estimator.
 
Pleased for you, I thought it didn't look too bad, not write off bad anyway. At least BMW are doing it so you should expect and immaculate repair.

Proves me right. I have seen much worse. Yours has nothing just panels which on the z4 are bolt on/off.
 
You're 'lucky' it was a glancing impact so only the outside panels are affected above the sill line. If the impact was straight in and affected the floor pan it would have been a different story.
Still at least it's getting sorted even though it's gutting when some idiot does something like this; after my recent where a van driver reversed into my side then tried to claim I'd somehow crabbed into him, I'm seriously looking at a Road Hawk or similar system.
